Summary
Performs cardiopulmonary diagnostic testing in both the inpatient and outpatient hospital settings.

Job Duties
  • Performs procedures related to spirometry, lung capacity, body plethysmography, nitrogen washout, maximum voluntary ventilation (MMV), maximum inspiratory and maximum expiratory pressures (MIP/MEP), methacholine challenge, six-minute walk, arterial blood gas, metabolic studies, and cardiopulmonary stress testing.
  • Performs daily and monthly equipment calibrations to ensure established quality control standards.
  • Participates in the development of evidenced-based policies and procedures for cardiopulmonary testing.
  • Documents daily/monthly calibration and maintenance to maintain equipment reliability and quality control standards.
  • Explains testing procedures to patients to provide a level of understanding of the procedure and obtains pertinent history from the patient and/or chart to provide proper care.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and
  • Completion of one year math/science education beyond high school
  • 1 year of applicable experience.
  • Demonstrates the problem solving process in the identification and resolution of patient care or other problems.
  • Knowledge of the risks involved in cardiopulmonary testing and the appropriate response to an adverse reaction.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 1-1/2 Yrs
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 1-1/2 Yrs
  • CPFT-Cert Pulmonary Function Technologist NRBC - State of Pennsylvania within 1 Year or
  • RPFT-Reg Pulmonary Function Technologist NRBC - State of Pennsylvania

Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful completion of the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) examination or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) examination.

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
