Essential Responsibilities:
1. Practices autonomously and serves as an extension of the provider to perform oncology specific physical, mental, and psychosocial assessments, interpret patient lab and imaging results, provide symptom management needs and education, and supports management of drug interactions or reactions.
2. Maintains a thorough understanding of cancer and disease site, cancer care, treatment plans, and all cancer treatment modalities
3. Coordinates with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care needs are met; Monitors patient health status and assesses for changes
4. Provides thorough patient education on oncology care options including port placement, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, surgical treatment, PET scans, genetic testing, genomic testing, NCCN guidelines, and other treatment modalities.
5. Maintains professional oncology certification through the Oncology Nursing Society and completes oncology specific continuing education annually as required by CoC and NAPBC accreditations
6. Reviews and maintains current literature, attends product and practice education, and applies such to promote optimal patient outcomes; presents cases at HRH Tumor Board
7. Manages time productively; flexes scheduling for patient need; maintains professional and appropriate documentation; and completes assignments/teaching responsibilities per scheduled time frames.
