Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care in the Emergency Department using the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under general supervision, the RN collaborates with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and developmentally appropriate care consistent with MUSC policies and professional nursing standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient- and family-centered care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and develop nursing diagnoses

  • Identify expected outcomes and create individualized care plans

  • Implement interventions and coordinate care across disciplines

  • Provide health education and promote wellness

  • Evaluate patient progress and modify care plans as needed

  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment

  • Protect patient privacy and demonstrate respectful, professional behavior

  • Direct and lead assigned team members to ensure quality patient outcomes

  • Identify clinical priorities and act promptly to improve patient outcomes

  • Apply care management principles to ensure efficient delivery of services

  • Actively participate in shared governance and professional practice initiatives

  • Adhere to established standards of care and participate in peer review

  • Promote leadership, clinical excellence, and effective teamwork

  • Demonstrate accountability, autonomy, and strong critical thinking skills

  • Support a healthy work environment and pursue ongoing professional development

Additional Job Description

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

License and Certifications:

  • Current South Carolina or compact state Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) with the American Heart Association (AHA) is required
