Join us as a Clinical Data Abstraction Specialist RN and play a key role in elevating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular care. In this role, you will dive into patient medical records, extract and organize key data points, and help drive quality improvement, research, and better patient outcomes across our health system.
You will work with major national quality programs including the National Cardiovascular Data Registry, Chest Pain MI, ICD, Afib ablation, Get with the Guidelines Stroke, and Get with the Guidelines HF. Your commitment to accuracy and your passion for data will directly support service line accreditations and help shape decisions that improve patient care.
What You Will Do:
- Review medical records for cardiac and stroke patients and abstract essential information from physician notes, labs, imaging, and procedure documentation.
- Apply your clinical expertise to categorize, code, summarize, interpret, and calculate registry and case information.
- Submit data to national databases and registries while ensuring accuracy through audits and validation checks.
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines with confidence while communicating clearly, identifying obstacles, and recommending solutions.
- Navigate electronic medical records and registry tools; collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
- Contribute to team guidelines, best practices, and data dictionaries while identifying opportunities to improve workflows.
- Stay current with evolving healthcare regulations and best practices in data abstraction.
- Partner with the STEMI and CV Quality Program Manager and the Nursing Quality Outcomes Manager to support education on abstracted outcomes.
- Assist with creating performance reports and dashboards for key internal stakeholders.
- Promote quality improvement, patient and staff safety, and cultural diversity in all aspects of your work.
- Provide care and service in a way that reflects an understanding of patient age, physical needs, psychosocial needs, and safety considerations.
- Maintain up to date knowledge of all statutes, guidelines, and compliance standards and participate in required compliance activities.
What You Bring (Minimum Requirements):
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Missouri
- Two years of related experience in clinical data abstraction and or experience in cardiovascular or stroke care
- Strong critical thinking and data analysis skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with computer hardware, Microsoft Office, and specialty software
- Ability to shift priorities and manage multiple tasks at once
