Macquarie University Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Respiratory and Endoscopy teams, where you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based care in a collaborative and innovative environment.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in Respiratory and Endoscopy, you will play a central role in delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care to patients undergoing respiratory assessments, interventions and endoscopic procedures. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting with a range of respiratory conditions, including assessment, monitoring, treatment and education.

  • Preparing, assisting and recovering patients undergoing endoscopic procedures, ensuring safety, comfort and dignity throughout the patient journey.

  • Conducting thorough patient assessments, developing individualised care plans and evaluating patient outcomes in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

  • Administering medications, including procedural sedation, in accordance with hospital protocols and best practice guidelines.

  • Maintaining competency in the use and management of specialised respiratory and endoscopy equipment, ensuring correct setup, troubleshooting and post-procedure care.

  • Providing patient and family education regarding respiratory management, post-procedure care and self-management strategies.

  • Accurately documenting all aspects of patient care, observations and clinical interventions in line with organisational and professional standards.

  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and evidence-based practice projects to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

  • Contributing to a positive and supportive team culture, mentoring junior staff and students, and actively participating in ongoing professional development opportunities.

  • Adhering to infection prevention and control standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and all relevant clinical policies and procedures.

Selection Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with no conditions or undertakings.

  • Demonstrated clinical experience in respiratory nursing, endoscopy/procedural nursing, or a related acute care setting.

  • Strong assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills with the ability to respond effectively to changes in patient condition.

  • Experience with or willingness to develop competency in procedural sedation, airway management and the operation of endoscopic and respiratory equipment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide compassionate patient and family education.

  • Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement and ongoing professional development.

  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly across two clinical specialty areas, managing competing priorities with a high standard of care.
