The Registered Nurse (RN) role is an integral member of the multidisciplinary health care team that meets the diverse needs of patients using contemporary professional best practice standards. The RN applies advanced risk assessments, plans interventions, and delivers care that is safe, appropriate and clinically effective.
The role of the RN incorporates the following but not limited to: unsupervised clinical practice, patient advocate, supervision and mentorship / preceptorship, counselling, interaction / liaison within a team as well as accurate and timely documentation.

  • Base salary from $76,868 - $107,956 + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging via Maxxia to maximise your take home pay (including venue hire, meals, entertainment and novated leasing). Salary based on enterprise agreement and relevant nursing experience year level.

  • 2 x permanent part-time positions available (up to 0.80 FTE, four days per week).

Are you a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse ready to take the next step in your acute care career? Macquarie University Hospital is seeking two dedicated Registered Nurses (RN Level 3 or above) to join our highly regarded Ward 3E Neurosciences team on a permanent part-time basis (up to 0.80 FTE, four days per week).

Ward 3E is a dynamic acute inpatient unit specialising in the care of patients with complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. About the Role

As a Registered Nurse on Ward 3E Neurosciences, you will deliver high-quality, holistic nursing care to patients with a range of neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Working within a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care throughout each patient's journey.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for neurosciences patients in an acute inpatient setting.

  • Performing neurological observations, post-operative monitoring and early identification of changes in patient condition, escalating concerns promptly and appropriately.

  • Administering medications safely and accurately in accordance with hospital policies and legislative requirements.

  • Collaborating with medical, surgical, allied health and nursing colleagues to develop and implement individualised, evidence-based care plans.

  • Mentoring and supporting junior nursing staff, graduate nurses and students, contributing to a positive learning environment on the ward.

  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and unit-based education to continuously enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

  • Maintaining accurate, timely and thorough clinical documentation in line with professional standards and hospital protocols.

  • Upholding infection prevention and control practices, workplace health and safety standards, and all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Ward 3E Neurosciences is recognised for its specialist expertise in caring for patients undergoing complex neurological and neurosurgical procedures, including brain and spinal surgery, deep brain stimulation and the management of conditions such as epilepsy, brain tumours and movement disorders. Our nursing team works alongside some of Australia's most respected neurosurgeons and neurologists, providing care that is informed by the latest research and clinical innovation.

About You

You are an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse with a genuine passion for neurosciences and acute care nursing. You bring clinical confidence, strong critical thinking skills and a warm, patient-centred approach. You value teamwork, are committed to ongoing professional growth and are eager to contribute to a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Selection Criteria

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) without conditions or restrictions.

  • Minimum classification at Registered Nurse Level 3 or above, with substantial acute care nursing experience.

  • Demonstrated experience in neurosciences, neurosurgical or a related acute specialty area (highly desirable).

  • Proven ability to perform comprehensive clinical assessments, including neurological observations, and to recognise and respond to deteriorating patients.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical education, mentorship of junior staff and students, and participation in quality improvement activities.

  • A postgraduate qualification in neurosciences nursing, critical care or a related discipline (desirable but not essential).
