The Department of Pediatrics- School Health Initiative has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Registered Nurse-1 to provide vital support for the Pediatric Mobile Clinic and Shotz-2-Go.
The Registered Nurse 1 delivers patient-family centered care in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific patient care.
Core Responsibilities:
Assesses assigned patients and evaluates plans to include documentation of nursing care. Reports symptoms and changes in patients’ condition and vital signs. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses and conditions, and physician orders.
Reviews, evaluates and reports diagnostic tests to assess patient’s condition.
Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
Prepares patients for, and assists with examinations, procedures and treatments. Considers patient age and culture during patient treatments and provides any needed information regarding treatment plan. Nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
Performs appropriate patient tests and safely administers medications within the scope of practice. Administers and maintains accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures and physician orders.
Communicates plan of care in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e. HIPAA).
Uses best practices for transition of patient care. Uses available resources to assist in discharge planning.
Plans, prioritizes, and adjusts assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seeks assistance when needed.
Adapts to changing work demands and environment. Operates the appropriate medical equipment.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
Cares for babies, toddlers, children, and teenagers.
Supervise nursing activities and train LPNs and medical assistants.
Provides direct nursing care to patients in PMC or SHOTZ-2-GO within the scope of practice of a registered nurse in Florida.
Perform routine procedures as ordered by the provider, including checking vital signs.
Inventories, stocks, and properly store and handle all vaccines
Weekly uploads log tags
Cleans and stocks the bus daily after each clinic day with the assistance of the LPN or medical assistant.
Administers and manages vaccines according to clinic protocols and standing orders under the orders of the medical director.
To ensure that all medical procedures can be performed and to comply with the infection control environment of UHealth clinics, orders and maintains all necessary inventories of medical and clerical supplies.
Maintains aseptic technique for all patient care settings prior to care, during care, and after care to minimize the spread of infectious diseases.
Ensures clinic is clean and organized, including counters, storage areas, working surfaces, clinic surfaces, and any clinic space.
Perform clinic POC testing (lipid panel, Hb, Urine Dipstick, A1C, Fasting Blood Sugar, Blood lead, Flu AB, Strep, Urine Pregnancy, COVID) and perform EKG, as per provider orders. Documents results in UChart.
Ensures all medical and technology equipment is in working condition. Contact IT and/or the supervisor to address any malfunctioning equipment within 24 hours.
Collaborates with healthcare providers, patients, parents, and school administration to assess vaccination needs and ensure compliance with vaccination schedules.
Ensures proper vaccination compliance for school-age children by reviewing Florida Shots records, developing profiles for new students, accurately translating foreign vaccination records, and maintaining up-to-date records to ensure students have completed the requirements to start school in Florida.
Ensures that proper parental consent is provided and contacts parents regarding any concerns indicated in the consent.
Communicate with parents to ensure their understanding of Florida's immunization requirements, educate them about immunization schedules, provide the necessary 680 forms, and assist them in navigating the follow-up process to remain on schedule.
Adheres to University policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas with team members

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Valid State of Florida RN license required
BLS from American Heart Association only.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (i.e. sanitation, decontamination etc.)
Excellent patient experience skills
Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
