About the opportunity 

 

Due to the current West Metro Demand for Maternity Services and in partnership with Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Barwon Health, Werribee Mercy’s Midwifery in the Home (MITH) department is increasing the postpartum services available to women in our community 

MITH is a department that provides holistic best practice community care in the postnatal phase of a woman’s pregnancy journey. The MITH Department provides community care 7 days a week and is a dynamic and fast-paced unit lead by a team of senior midwives that ensure and facilitate the continuing support and care for our families in the local community.   

 

  • Midwifery in the Home - Werribee Mercy Hospital 1.5eft, twelve (12) months - Short Term Contract commencing early 2026 

  • Midwives provide ongoing care of the women and infants following discharge home from our hospital 

  • MITH midwives uphold an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team providing a highly responsive and flexible service to woman and their families 

  • MITH midwives empower and educate woman and their families regarding their postnatal care and wellbeing. Offering education and guidance in infant nutrition, ongoing recovery from birth, transitioning to life with a newborn, family planning and refer to community support services available for families. 

  • Confident in the assessment of mother and baby well-being and provide support and encouragement to facilitate the introduction of the newborn into the family unit and  actively promote and support breast-feeding, with respect to the mother’s choice of feeding. 

  • Provide support to families in their loss of an infant through professional guidance and appropriate referral. 

 

 

What you’ll bring

To thrive in this role, you will have: 

 

  • APHRA registration as a Registered Midwife or Registered Midwife/Registered nurse  

  • A minimum of 12 months of MITH experience 

  • Current Driver’s License 

  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving organisational goals using an innovative approach 

  • Commitment to Professional Development and best practice initiatives 

  • Computer literacy 

 

You will also be required to provide evidence of, or in the process of obtaining: 

  • A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check. 

  • Current COVID-19 certificate, proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
