The Boeing Global Sustainability Engagements and Partnerships (GSEP) team is seeking a Regional Sustainability Lead to develop and execute sustainability policy advocacy, and partnerships in support of our Government, customer, industry and academia stakeholders in the United Kingdom.  This role will focus on issues relating to Boeing’s five pillar approach to sustainability (fleet renewal, operational efficiency, renewable energy (including Sustainable Aviation Fuels), advanced technologies and market-based measures). The ideal candidate will possess expertise in creating and leading policy advocacy campaigns (both direct advocacy and advocacy in partnership with customers, industry peers, trade associations and members states) aviation sustainability, energy resilience, and finance. This role will also have additional responsibilities, co-ordinating activity between GSEP and colleagues across Boeing Government Operations on key aspects of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) work on Sustainable Aviation Fuels and providing leadership to regional aspects of Sustainable Aviation Technology’s work. The candidate will be a member of the Global Enterprise Sustainability (GES) Team and will report to the Regional Director of Sustainability for Europe, Middle East, Türkiye, Africa and Central Asia. The candidate will be based in one of our Boeing sites in the UK, working closely with Boeing Global and the wider Boeing team.

Position Responsibilities:

Lead GSEP activity in the UK, including developing network of customers, cross sector partners (finance, energy, ag, etc), academia, political and Government stakeholders to inform policy making on GSEP priority areas (SAF, ETS, Jet-M, etc). Lead regional work on energy resilience - including developing positions and data to support policy development in the UK, EU and NATO Support ICAO Team as principle liaison on FINVEST and ACT SAF Lead support to SAT for Europe and METACA team (including partner identification and coordinating Government Support) Provide leadership to Cascade team in the region (UK) and advance development of new Cascade functionality to meet stakeholder needs. Provide non-US SAT technical liaison to BCA PD.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • A proactive approach to independently advancing initiatives while effectively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with or for the UK Government on aviation decarbonisation and/or energy security.
  • Experience with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and relevant technologies.
  • An engineering background, working with or for defence and commercial customers.
  • A collaborative attitude and excellent communication skills to balance multiple stakeholder requirements, resolve contentious issues, and develop opportunities.
  • A global perspective, with strong international acumen and experience working with diverse teams and understanding various viewpoints.
  • Broad knowledge of global, European and UK environmental and sustainability issues, including the policy and regulatory environment affecting aviation, as well as current and future carbon emissions incentive mechanisms or mandates impacting the commercial aviation industry.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to create, deliver, and share persuasive presentations representing Boeing to internal and external stakeholders.

​Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Several years of experience in environmental studies, public policy, business development, or sustainability.
  • Proven ability to deliver advocacy.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver a portfolio of projects with multiple partners.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in English with strong writing and presentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an environmental technical field, public policy, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Very experienced in sustainability, policy advocacy, partnership development, strategy or sales, preferably within the aviation sector.
  • Experience advocating, shaping, and crafting policy or legislation that can support the commercial aviation industry’s commitment to becoming carbon net-zero by 2050.
  • Strong understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and best practices.
