Responsible for maintaining the daily operations, software, and hardware of the Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Assists with activities related to system integrity and optimum performance of IT applications related to laboratory transmission of test orders, results reporting and billing information.
Works collaboratively with national Trinity Health analysts and software vendors to test and implement software updates, report and resolve software problems, and manage test-related functions.
Works with the IT staff in developing, implementing and maintaining HIS/LIS software and interfaces for laboratory and point of care devices.
Assists with installation of new terminals, printers, and other system hardware. Coordinates with the Facilities and IT departments regarding cable and termination requirements of the lab system.
Assists in maintaining the information system hardware. Troubleshoots printer and terminal malfunctions.
Coordinates with the Laboratory Information Systems Coordinators, section managers/ supervisors, and section database coordinators in the development of new tests or the modification of current tests.
Works closely with clinical informatics staff to ensure optimal functionality of laboratory orders and results in all patient care settings.
Ensures that all laboratory procedures in the laboratory-associated IT applications and Hospital Information System (HIS) are correctly implemented, documented, and maintained. These areas include but are not limited to interfaces, test results, charting, billing, coding, and the charge master.
Performs periodic operations for the laboratory-associated computer systems. Monitors daily operations, modifies and adds operation print jobs, and documents any changes to operations.
Investigates and resolves problems with electronic orders, patient test result reports, and billing functions for inpatient/outpatient/outreach customers.
Participates in maintaining the online test directory.
Assists with building reports for operational or financial management.
General Requirements
Associate’s degree in science-related field required. Bachelor’s degree in science-related field preferred.
Three years laboratory experience preferred
Laboratory information systems experience preferred.
Certification in one of the following:
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
