Job Description

Our Medical Affairs team advances patient care by engaging in scientific exchange with external medical experts and industry professionals ensuring the scientific value of our products is realized. We engage and train internal employees to ensure that they thoroughly comprehend the science behind the medicine and review further unmet medical needs to bolster collaboration and further differentiate our portfolio. 

We are seeking a Growth and Improvement minded Regional Health Systems Medical Affairs Director that can help drive our Strategic Operating Priorities. This person will be responsible for a specific regional area (TN, MS, LA).

Location:

This is a REMOTE position, but the person must reside in the indicated territory (TN, MS, or LA). Up to 50% travel required with some overnight.

The Regional Health Systems Medical Affairs Director (RHS MAD) is a therapeutic, disease, population health and health systems expert who develops on-going professional relationships with healthcare decision makers within a regional territory across key payer and provider organizations (e.g., health plans, PBMs, IDS, Medicaid, employers and employer coalitions), who provides accurate information across the full company product portfolio, clinical science, and quality management in a balanced and credible manner consistent with the regulatory environment and our company's ethical standards. 

Through a deep understanding of the accounts’ population health strategies, serves as the medical account manager, collaborating and coordinating with other Medical Affairs colleagues and select commercial roles, to bring relevant health care solutions to these accounts.  The RHS MAD is the sole company's role working with both provider and payer regional accounts, linking the main functions within the health care delivery system in their territory and serves as a resource for the USMA management team on health systems within territory.

Additional Key Responsibilities

  • Develops ongoing professional relationships with key decision makers in regional organized health systems, serving as the primary medical contact to ensure access to medical and scientific information on the full company product portfolio, pipeline, and areas of therapeutic interest, as well as non-product initiatives and areas of focus (e.g., quality management, outcomes research, adherence). 

  • Partners with the Managed Markets & Policy (MM&P) and Integrated Delivery System (IDS) account management teams to develop strategic account plans and associated medical account plans and then ensures execution of medical activities aligned with agreed plan.

  • Serves as the primary resource for market dynamics within territory to fully understand evolving information needs by decision makers to feed into the ongoing value-proposition development process for our company's offerings – product and non-product.

  • Leads medical account management and planning with associated medical affairs functions for regional accounts and markets.

  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with TA Regional Medical Scientific Directors (RMSD) regarding medical and scientific support needs in relevant health systems accounts.

  • Serves as the internal medical subject matter expert for each regional account, which enables strategic assessments and medical account management, through a complete and systematic communication process to the rest of USMA.

  • Maintains a macro view of the account to appropriately allocate company resources (e.g., human, technical) 

  • Builds and develops breath and depth of relationships with key decision makers and can anticipate the account’s population health management goals and needs

  • Provides customer insights to headquarters.

  • Serves as a resource for the Health Systems Executive Director Medical Affairs and other members of managed markets organization on other relevant strategic planning.  

  • Serves as a technical resource for questions raised by regional account management and staff on our company products.

  • Attends and supports scientific and medical meetings. Prepares planned post-meeting deliverables.

Education

  • Advanced healthcare/science doctoral degree (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD)

Experience | Knowledge | Skills

Required

  • Minimum of three (3) years in a field-based medical affairs role working with regional and/or national payers or integrated delivery systems or scientific leaders -OR- five years as a decision maker in the payer or integrated delivery system space

  • Work independently and as a Team member with Integrity | Precision | Accomplishment | Principled Ambition | Respect

  • Thorough knowledge of clinical medicine, USA health care delivery system structure and function, pharmaceutical economics, population health management, quality management, value-based payment and health care delivery policy and trends

  • Strong track record of effective cross-functional team collaboration and execution

  • Principled interpersonal communication skills, ability to network, strong personal integrity, collaborative mindset, and a strong customer focus are necessary

  • Thorough understanding of the FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other ethical guidelines relevant to the pharmaceutical industry 

  • Organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment, and have demonstrated project leadership abilities

Preferred

  • Formal training in health economics and outcomes research – real-world evidence generation

  • Field-based medical affairs role working with regional and/or national payers or integrated delivery systems and associated account management functions

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

The salary range for this role is

$190,800.00 - $300,300.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
