Scope/Job Summary
The Regional Director ANZ is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the Australia and New Zealand region, encompassing products and patient care businesses. The role is accountable for driving sustainable top-line growth, maximising profitability, and delivering strong returns on invested capital, in alignment with global and regional business strategies.
As a senior leader and member of the Growth Leadership Team, the Regional Director ANZ leads and coordinates the region by establishing short- and long-term objectives, developing infrastructure and organisational capability, and ensuring effective execution of strategy. The role holds full accountability for regional P&L, people leadership, and long-term business performance, while contributing to the broader global leadership community.
Job Knowledge and Complexity
Develops and implements the regional vision, objectives, strategies, plans, and policies in alignment with global and regional priorities, in close cooperation with Business Area leadership teams.
Operates in a complex, multi-market environment, balancing commercial performance, operational execution, regulatory requirements, and organisational development.
Demonstrates deep expertise in sales, marketing, and commercial leadership, with strong understanding of market dynamics, competitive forces, and growth opportunities across ANZ.
Applies comprehensive knowledge of the organisation’s products, services, customers, and operating model, including corporate finance and key measures of performance.
Exercises sound judgement in highly complex and ambiguous situations with material impact on regional and global outcomes.
Responsibilities
Determine regional objectives and formulate strategies, plans, and policies to optimise P&L performance, growth, and return on invested capital.
Lead the development and execution of ANZ market strategies in line with global and regional business strategies.
Analyse operating results of the region against established objectives and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken where required.
Identify and pursue new growth opportunities in alignment with corporate strategies.
Provide overall leadership and coordination of the ANZ region, collaborating closely with functional leaders and stakeholders in a matrix organisational structure.
Build and maintain strong relationships with major customers, partners, suppliers, government agencies, and industry bodies, representing the organisation at senior level.
Gather, interpret, and present management information, recommending and influencing appropriate downstream and upstream actions.
Review and approve the appointment, employment, transfer, or termination of key roles within the region.
Continuously develop the organisation by leading, coaching, and motivating employees, and ensuring strong succession planning and leadership capability.
Plan and manage internal communications to ensure awareness and alignment with global and regional strategies.
Ensure company policies, governance standards, legal obligations, and regulatory requirements are implemented, communicated, and monitored across the region.
Supervision
Provides leadership across the ANZ organisation, with direct accountability for senior leaders and oversight of multiple layers of management.
Oversees talent development, performance management, workforce planning, and succession planning aligned to current and future business needs.
Leads effectively through influence and personal example within an international, matrix business environment.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field is required; postgraduate qualifications are desirable.
Minimum of 12+ years of professional or business experience, including extensive senior leadership experience.
Proven success in leading a region, country, or significant business unit with full commercial and P&L accountability.
Strong background in sales, commercial leadership, and strategic business management, ideally within medical devices, life sciences, high-technology, or related industries.
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively within a global, matrix‑organised business.
