Opteon

Regional Commercial Lead

Hamilton Full time

If you’re a commercial valuer based in or open to working from Hamilton, Tauranga, or Wellington, and you care about quality, influence, and developing others, this is your opportunity. Step into a Regional Commercial Lead role where your expertise truly matters.

About Opteon:

At Opteon, we combine global capability with deep local knowledge to deliver trusted property advice across New Zealand. As a leading independent property solutions provider, we partner closely with Councils and government agencies to deliver robust, defensible valuation outcomes that stand up to scrutiny.

We’re now looking for a Regional Commercial Lead who enjoys balancing technical excellence with leadership — someone who wants real influence over quality, people development, and regional delivery.

The Opportunity:

As a Regional Commercial Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping commercial and industrial valuation outcomes across your region. You’ll remain hands‑on with valuation work, while also providing technical leadership and mentoring to a mixed‑experience team.

You’ll take ownership across General Revaluations, roll maintenance, and objections, acting as a trusted technical authority for both internal teams and external stakeholders. Just as importantly, you’ll help develop capability, lift standards, and contribute to a highly collaborative and respectful working culture.

This role suits someone who enjoys complexity, values quality, and wants to make a visible impact in a regulated, high‑trust environment.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:

  • Leading valuation methodology and quality assurance across commercial, industrial, specialist, and major property assets.
  • Coordinating and contributing to General Revaluations, roll maintenance, and objection programmes.
  • Ensuring valuation delivery meets statutory deadlines, contractual KPIs, and Valuer‑General audit requirements.
  • Undertaking and reviewing complex and high‑profile valuation assignments.
  • Providing technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and peer review across all experience levels.
  • Preparing formal valuation reports and, where required, providing expert evidence to the Land Valuation Tribunal.
  • Working closely with internal leaders, Quality Assurance teams, Councils, and external stakeholders to resolve technical issues and continuously improve outcomes.
  • Maintaining strong, up‑to‑date regional market knowledge across commercial and industrial sectors.

About You:

You’re a highly capable Commercial Valuer who enjoys being both technically credible and people‑focused. You’re comfortable operating in a regulated environment, you care deeply about quality, and you take pride in helping others lift their capability.

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive experience in commercial and industrial valuation, ideally within rating or revaluation environments.
  • Advanced technical expertise across complex and major commercial asset classes.
  • Strong understanding of Rating Valuation Rules, statutory requirements, and VG audit processes.
  • Experience mentoring, reviewing, or leading valuers.
  • Clear, confident communication skills, with the ability to explain complex valuation outcomes to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities without losing quality or focus.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree in Property, Business (Property), or equivalent recognised by the NZ Valuers Registration Board.
  • Registered Valuer (NZ) or MRICS accreditation.
  • Current, clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence.
  • Based in, or willing to work from, Hamilton, Tauranga, or Wellington.
  • Full working rights in New Zealand.

What We Offer

  • Professional memberships & CPD covered – including NZIV membership, verified CPD points, and in‑house technical training.
  • Competitive salary with uncapped commission earning potential, with mandatory modules fully covered.
  • Referral bonus – be rewarded for bringing great people into Opteon.
  • Career development – access to experienced professionals across Residential, Core Commercial, Development, Middle Markets, Agribusiness, and more, plus leadership training and free LinkedIn Learning.
  • Paid parental leave – supporting families at important life stages.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work‑life balance.
  • Structured onboarding and continuous training to set you up for success.
  • Rewards & recognition – annual awards, service recognition, and more.
  • Support when you need it – confidential mental health and wellbeing support via Intellect.
