Recreation Specialist (Sailing Instructor)

Salary Range: $25 - $28 Per Hour

Job Summary: Plans, schedules and conducts weekend basic keelboat courses IAW guidelines established by US Navy Sailing Association for military active duty personnel and their dependents, retirees and authorized civilians. This position is subject to instructing the summer and winter boater safety courses that are offered.

Major Duties:

  • Works in conjunction with scheduling administrator, prepares course materials. Provides adequate supervision and instruction to ensure participant health and safety. Accurately completes records and reports on student performance and boat maintenance. Evaluates effectiveness of ongoing courses, devises, improvises and adapts sailing activities to fit the conditions of water environment and to conform to limitations in funds, facilities, equipment and staff. May assist supervisor in developing annual budget, procurement of equipment, formulating long range plans, safety programs and public relations undertakings. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: A strong background in sailing with a minimum of 3 years sailing experience, on water safety at an instructor level, good communication and teaching skills, ability to work with a diverse range of students, past leadership experience or the desire to develop leadership abilities.
