Job Summary: About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation at Cannon AFB.

Major Duties:

  • Incumbent plans, directs, and manages the Outdoor Adventure Program. Responsible for planning,scheduling, developing and arranging support services for ongoing outdoor adventure programs/activities to include, but not limited to: snow-skiing, water-skiing, wilderness backpacking, hiking, camping, mountain biking/cycling, white water rafting, rock climbing and high ropes courses. Responsible for ensuring the programs/activities are carried out safely and without any problems. Provides instruction on different programs/activities; although instruction may be provided by an instructor with specific specialized training. Sets bindings on rental and customer skis and snowboards. Enforces safety policies and procedures. Develops and writes articles to be published explaining outdoor adventure programs and specific programs/activities. Briefs outdoor adventure programs at various functions on base, i.e. squadron commander calls, etc. Receives and resolves customer complaints and requests for special programs/activities. Operates cash register, rings up sales, receives money and makes change. Responsible for preparing financial paperwork to include budgets and reports to the Outdoor Recreation Director. Drives 15 passenger van or bus to and from various outdoor adventure programs both on and off the installation. Works uncommon tour of duty to include, days, nights and weekends. Assists with training new personnel. Assists with other Outdoor Recreation programs as needed. Performs other duties assigned. Qualifying Experience: Must have experience which provided a working familiarity with the routines and procedures followed in group activities or programs. In addition must have specialized experience working in an outdoor adventure recreational activity to include knowledge of equipment, rules and procedures in that area. Must have technical experience and training on setting of snow skis and snowboards. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must have the ability to guide and teach customers the skill and techniques for various outdoor adventure recreational activities. Must have a valid NM license or ability to obtain this license within six months from date of hire. Must have knowledge of defensive driving techniques, including skill to recognize developing hazardous road and traffic conditions and the judgment to select alternate routs to avoid potential problems.
