Job Summary: This position is located in the Fitness Center, Athletic Branch, Recreation Division of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas. This position is responsible for the coordination and economical maintenance of equipment and facilities, as well as promoting and conducting a diversified fitness program for all eligible patrons.

Major Duties:

  • MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES Ensures the facility is only used by authorized patrons; enforces policy and regulations including dress code; ensures the safety and security of the building; and maintains order and discipline throughout the work area. Ensures a safe environment for the patrons by regular inspection of the equipment, facility and grounds for defects or discrepancies. Ensures repairs are made as expeditiously as possible, requesting assistance as needed. Schedules routine inspection, upkeep and proper maintenance of the facility and equipment. This requires regular and detailed checks for sanitation and cleanliness in all areas and equipment assigned. A daily maintenance program is necessary to ensure that all equipment is safe and in proper working order. Provides assistance to patrons (in person and via telephone) regarding hours of operation, fees, equipment available, eligibility requirements, Fitness Center and MWR regular and special activities, events, services, intramurals and similar nontechnical questions. Ensures and assists in the setup and breakdown for special events such as 5K runs. Ensures cashier duties are performed properly; Fitness Director verifies assigned change fund; DARs completed properly and that proper procedures are followed for depositing money in depository. Performs control counter duties, which includes issuing towels and equipment, collecting user fees and receiving equipment in accordance with the employee Standard Operating Procedure Handbook. Ensures bulletin boards, which contain information on special events, intramural/sports program, fitness, MWR program/events, patron ads, are kept up to-date, neat and orderly Ensures monthly locker rentals are up-to-date and locker rental cards are prepared and properly maintained. Notifies patrons when locker rent is due, past due and when lock will be cut. Will follow procedures in the employee handbook on the handling and documentation of items removed from locker. Routinely ensures that a sufficient stock of issue items, paper products, and administrative supplies are on hand. Submits requisitions to reorder to the Fitness Director for review, approval and forwarding. Maintains an accurate log of all items requested, status and date received. Acts as the receiver for all BP (Blanket Purchase Agreements) and records entries on the monthly BPA form. May perform general housekeeping duties; sweeping mopping, vacuuming, dusting, picking up, emptying trash, cleaning equipment and sanitizing rest rooms and lockers. Other duties as assigned.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in fitness facility operation desired. One-year experience in fitness and/or recreation, with demonstrated ability to maintain and perform required functions for the operation of a fitness facility. Incumbent must have knowledge of the principles and methods used in providing support for physical fitness programs. Must have the ability to repair and maintain various types of fitness equipment to include aerobic, strength (both variable weight and plate loaded) and other weight lifting equipment. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate alertness, reliability and the ability to deal with others. Must have knowledge of various types of physical fitness and weight equipment in order to provide basic instruction on proper use. Must be neat in appearance; have a pleasant personality; be sensitive to changing needs; and apply tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers/patrons. Must use imagination and resourcefulness in solving problems. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
