The primary purpose of this position is to provide support, assistance, and programming with the operations of the Community Centers on JBER (Arctic Oasis, Warrior Zone, and Arctic Warrior Events Center).

Major Duties:

  • Provides customer service to patrons and performs duties required for facility operation Maintains equipment and facility Completes financial paperwork, performs inspections, and completes reports. Follows resource protection and cash handling procedures related to the position Assists in programming activities to provide morale and recreational welfare opportunities to customers Performs resale operation duties

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreations Aid and Assistant Series 0189. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes performing work as a group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities. Teacher's aid in elementary school recreation or physical education program, with emphasis on development of general recreational skills and abilities. Aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service. Aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities. Summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, and boating and fishing areas (e.g., demonstrating camping techniques and park safety, conducting nature tours, and overseeing farm animal areas provided for children). Sales or stock clerk in a recreation supplies and equipment shop. Aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance of inventory control and accountability for such property in a recreation facility. Aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-04 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-04 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of principles and techniques of recreational facilities and community centers. 2. Knowledge of and ability to interpret Air Force Instructions, DoD/MAJCOM directives, local policies and various regulations, practices, and procedures. 3. Knowledge of clerical procedures and ability to accurately complete, review and maintain records. 4. Ability to contend with a range of problems common to a recreational facility and community center environment. 5. Knowledge of recreational equipment, electronics, audio visual support, and otherwise within the community centers, how they function, and required safety rules and regulations. 6. Ability to establish effective working relationships with others to include external and internal customers. 7. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. 8. Skill in cash handling and accounting procedures. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
