Major Duties:

  • NONAPPROPRIATED FUND POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Recreation Assistant BUSINESS TITLE: Recreation Assistant (Bowling) JOB SERIES: 0189 PAY LEVEL: NF-02 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the Bowling Center Manager with the efficient and smooth operation of a 12 lane, or smaller, bowling center and functional guidance of both administrative and technical support needs of the bowling center. The purpose of this position is to assist Bowling Center Manager in the day-to-day center operations and act as a Duty Manager in absence of Bowling Center Manager. Responsible for the smooth operation of a 12 lane, or smaller, bowling center to which may include a limited snack bar, game room, limited pro shop, control desk and pin setting equipment. Performs various cash handling operations (i.e.: issuance of change fund, RecTrac end-of-shift reports, preparation of RecTrac DAR, handling and securing of shift deposits, etc.). Preparation of supply requisitions for manager¿s approval using the Computron computer system as well as receiving and posting for the bowling center. Recommends new approaches and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of center and services. Participates in the planning, organizing and control of activities within the assigned Bowling Center. Participates in the development of facility goals, objectives and recommends changes. Assures adequate maintenance, sanitation and cleanliness of the bowling facility and its equipment. May direct employees in minor maintenance repairs. Receives customer complaints and attempts to resolve them. Refers major complaints or incidents to the manager or appropriate authority. Closes bowling center and assures that all entrances and exits are secured and that no unauthorized persons remain in the facility. Makes fire check, secures fund container at the completion of the business day. Is available to patrons for comments or to assist customers if a problem exists. Makes note of all problems, incidents, peculiar occurrences, etc, in the duty log book. Assures compliance with the Dram Shop Theory. Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Acknowledges customers, smiles and makes eye contact. Asks questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 20 years of age AND have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school. (Valid documentation will be required upon hire.) Must be able to perform prolonged standing, walking, reaching, moderate lifting and carrying. Must be able to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include weekends, holidays, and nighttime. Must be able to complete Cash Handling Training Course before handling fund. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Working knowledge of the sport of bowling, bowling center operation, and equipment maintenance use to a level which enables the incumbent to perform or direct minor maintenance or adjustments. Working knowledge in Microsoft Programs such as Word, Excel, etc. Strong verbal and written communications skills to write reports, correspondence and procedure guides; effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of senior personnel, customers and the general public. Ability to read and interpret organizational policies and procedural guides as well as military orders and regulations, and ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form. Possess excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, tact, and problem solving abilities, a team player actively looking for ways to help people. This activity is a Drug-free workplace. Applicants hired into flexible positions (0-40 hours per week) or regular position with a time-limited appointment will not lose their spouse preference eligibility until movement or hired into a regular full or part time position. The time period for MSP eligibility begins 30 days before the military sponsor's reporting date to the new duty station, if accompanied, or at any time thereafter during the tour. All military and DoD civilian spouses are required to provide a copy of their sponsor's orders during the application process.
