Salary Range: $15.25 - $16.5 Per Hour

Job Summary: This position is located in the Sports, Fitness, and Aquatics Branch, of the Community Services Department, Community Support, Commander Navy Region Korea. The primary purpose of this position is to function as a lifeguard responsible for safeguarding the lives of persons using the respective swimming pool to which assigned.

Major Duties:

  • Remains alert and continuously observe swimming area to ensure all water safety rules are observed by swimmers. Ensures that all swimmers in the water are accounted for at all times. Performs rescue work and when necessary, renders first aid until such time as qualified doctor or other emergency personnel are present. In case of a serious accident will call for an ambulance. Prepares complete accident report. Alerts supervisor of unusual circumstances. Ensures safety of patrons and other staff at all times. Request that patrons that do not obey pool rules/regulations leave the pool area. If they refuse, security is notified. Recommends to the supervisor those patrons who should be recommended to be banned from the pool. Determines patron eligibility and provides quality customer services to patrons. Answers questions and provides program information to patrons. May assist with scheduled pool parties after hours of operation or with a base wide special event. Performs any necessary housekeeping tasks to ensure proper standards of cleanliness, sanitation and appearance of pool and related facilities (vacuuming pool, cleaning deck, etc.). Inspects pool and surrounding area ensuring cleanliness and safety at all times. Checks chlorine and PH levels on a scheduled basis. Immediately communicates problems or concerns of the aquatic environment to the aquatics manager. Maintains daily logs and records. Must Maintain a high level of physical fitness including the ability to swim 250yards in under 5:00 minutes. Performs other related duties assigned.

A qualified candidate must be at least 16 years old and possess the following: Must have the understanding and ability to enforce rigid safety regulations to ensure maximum protection of swimmers. Must have tact and diplomacy and the ability to relate well with patrons. Must be able to understand both oral and written instructions provided by supervisor. Knowledge of emergency water safety procedures, policies, written instructions and directives. Ability to use equipment to take pool readings. Dexterity to handle a person in the water who may panic or be unconscious.
