This position at the State Library of Oregon is part of the Oregon Talking Book & Braille Library (Talking Books) division. An estimated 62,000 Oregonians have limited vision or other disabilities which prevent them from being able to use conventional books or other printed materials. Talking Books serves as the Oregon regional library for the print-disabled within the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled (NLS) network by providing a wide variety of reading materials in audio or Braille formats to over 4,000 eligible users across the state.
As the Readers Advisor, you will carry out functions to ensure a smooth flow of services and support operations in Talking Books. Readers Advisors are the first and main point of contact with Talking Books users, and they communicate with patrons using phone calls, voicemail, and email. The entire collection is digitized, and users are serviced via USPS mail and online, making this a unique library environment.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of clerical experience. Two years of the experience must have been in a library or related setting providing specialized clerical or technical support, preferably including responsibility for leadwork activities and/or coordination of office or teamwork practices and/or procedures.
College-level courses may substitute for one year of the general clerical experience.
Desired Attributes:
Computer Literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Demonstrated proficiency in using library specific computer applications, including an integrated library system (ILS) and/or an online catalog (OPAC).
Attention to detail and ability to follow complex workflows requiring a high degree of accuracy and contextual decision-making.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to approach all interactions with a high degree of professionalism, even under sensitive/difficult circumstances.
Skill in explaining information to the public (in person, on the telephone, or in writing) laws, rules or policies relating to a particular program, operation, or service.
Preference Statement:
Preference may be given to those candidates with prior experience working in library circulation functions and assisting a diverse patron population for library services.

Hybrid work environment – While orientation will be conducted in office, this role will be open to Hybrid work once trial service is completed. Terms of hybrid work and schedule will be discussed and agreed upon between the hiring manager and successful candidate.
