We are currently recruiting for an R&D Senior Engineer to join our R&D Equipment and Process engineering team. The main responsibility of this role is the development, validation and implementation of new processes and test methods for the production and testing of new products at the Alcon Ireland site. The role involves ownership over data-driven planning, execution and reporting of process and test method development and optimisation studies including data collection, analysis and visualization, continued by the validation and implementation of these processes and test methods. In addition, the role involves the research of potential novel products and process improvement for implementation and instigation of new projects which lead to site product and process enhancements. A typical day to day will include:

  • Data-driven development and optimization of complex processes and test methods for new and existing Alcon Ireland surgical products.
  • Planning, execution and reporting of process development and optimization studies.
  • Collection and analysis of data from various sources, such as experiments, simulations, and historical data, and apply engineering principles to gain insights into the process and identification of areas for improvement.
  • Exploration of opportunities for novel product and process improvement projects.
  • Validation of new processes and test methods in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Technical support for the design transfer of new products from the Alcon R&D project pipeline and other Alcon facilities.
  • Project planning and management. Liaising with other departments/plants participating or impacted by assigned projects.
  • Communication of project status and risks to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Achieve assigned project milestones for R&D Engineering activities on time and within budget.
  • Ensuring all work adheres to health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Ensuring continual quality system compliance by adherence to established and evolving quality systems requirements.

What you should bring to Alcon

  • Minimum: Bachelor degree in Engineering/ Science or related discipline & Preferred: Masters/ PhD degree in. Engineering/ Science

  • Minimum: 2-3 years experience in an engineering function in a regulated industry with experience of equipment and process engineering. Preferred: 3-5 years experience in an engineering function in medical device manufacturing with experience of equipment and process engineering. Experience to include cross site projects and R&D liaison.

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in data driven process development
  • In-depth knowledge of data analysis by statistical methods
  • Knowledge of data visualization methods
  • Excellent technical, problem solving & analytical ability
  • Willingness to engage hands-on with processes and equipment
  • Knowledge of GMP validation and change control requirements
  • Well-developed project management skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Highly developed communication and people skills
  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
