The Opportunity
We are recruiting for an R&D Product Development Engineer to join our Heart Failure R&D team in Atlanta, GA. This role will contribute to the development, characterization, and verification of next-generation implantable MEMS sensor technology. The ideal candidate is a high-performing, hands-on engineer who can work across disciplines, learn quickly, solve ambiguous technical problems, and convert experimental results into robust product decisions.
This position is intentionally broad. Strong candidates may come from electrical engineering, computer engineering, MEMS, microelectronics packaging, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, automation, applied physics, or related technical backgrounds. The role requires engineering judgment, practical lab capability, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate across design, process, test, quality, manufacturing, and external partners.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support the design, development, and evaluation of implantable MEMS-based sensor systems, components, assemblies, processes, fixtures, and test methods.
- Develop and execute engineering studies to characterize sensor performance, reliability, manufacturability, and design robustness.
- Build, modify, and troubleshoot laboratory setups, prototypes, fixtures, and measurement systems used for product development.
- Analyze experimental data, identify trends and failure modes, and communicate conclusions through clear reports, presentations, and design-review materials.
- Draft and execute test protocols, verification plans, engineering reports, and design documentation in accordance with internal quality-system requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers on component development, process improvements, prototype builds, and technical issue resolution.
- Apply sound engineering principles, statistical thinking, and disciplined documentation throughout the product-development lifecycle.
- Perform work in compliance with FDA regulations, applicable standards, company policies, procedures, and task assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Microelectronics, or related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience developing, testing, troubleshooting, or characterizing engineering systems, devices, components, or processes.
- Ability to analyze technical data, draw practical conclusions, and communicate results clearly.
- Strong problem-solving ability, ownership, attention to detail, and willingness to learn new technical areas quickly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment with changing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in engineering, MEMS, microelectronics, packaging, mechanical systems, or a related technical field.
- Experience applying machine learning, AI, or advanced data-analysis methods to large engineering data sets is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Python, LabVIEW, or other programming tools.
- Proficiency in Python and experience with Python machine learning, data science, or data visualization libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Keras, Pytorch, Matplotlib, Seaborn, etc.).
- Experience with MEMS sensors, implantable or miniaturized medical devices, microelectronics packaging, precision assemblies, or reliability testing.
- Experience with electrical characterization, measurement systems, instrumentation, automation, data acquisition, or programming for engineering analysis.
- Experience with mechanical design, fixture development, prototyping, tolerance analysis, failure analysis, or process development.
- Experience with statistical analysis, design of experiments, JMP, Minitab, or similar tools.
- Exposure to low-power electronics, wireless systems, RF concepts, RFID experience, or sensor-system integration is beneficial.
- Experience developing software which interfaces with external hardware, including debugging.
- Working knowledge of low-level computing concepts, especially pertaining to communication systems.
- Familiarity with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and similar lab hardware.
