Key Purpose:

  • Development & Management of Formulations. Develops, manages, co-ordinates and controls the formulation component of product development, taking into account internal constraints and customer customer's requirements. This means work in due time, adequate to the market, at the right price, safe for the consumers and the environment and conform to laws, policies and legislation in force.
  • COP and product improvements. Continuously drives product improvements to guarantee a sustainable and profitable business for McBride. This activity is supported by constant benchmarking and research of new raw materials, processes and technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • New and existing Product Development
    • Development and optimisation of new formulations in order to meet the customer, internal as well as external requirements.
    • Research for new innovative concepts to provide additional value to customers at the right level of quality and costs.
    • Optimising existing formulations in order to keep the cost at a given maximum level for a specified quality. This activity is supported by product analyses and interpretation of analyses of market products, in order to be able to develop a similar product and to be informed on market changes.
    • Products meet legislative (including IP) and safety standards specified for products
  • Management in SAP  - Management and rationalisation of formulations and raw materials in SAP, following McBride procedures.
  • Technical Data
    • Set up of technical data sheets, taking into account internal guidelines.
    • Set up of safety data sheets, based on the classification obtained.
  • Performance test methods  - Developing, in close co-operation with the R&D Chemist, of methods that replicate the consumer’s performance assessment of a product.
  • Support to the technical commercial teams regarding the developed formulation concepts to the clients through technical presentations, personal interviews and phone calls.
  • Plant Support
    • Give technical support for factory related projects.
    • Assure that the first production of a new formulation concept fits with the internal & external requirements
  • Lead, Control, co-ordinate, motivate & judge the R&D chemist in order to meet the objectives of quality & safety of the development of products. Give training and assistance to the R&D Chemist. Assure the performance and development review.
  • Supplier Contact  - Contact with suppliers to be continuously informed on new concepts, raw materials and market tendencies.
  • QHSE -      Respecting and guaranteeing the responsibilities as described by the QHSE procedures.
  • External performance tests - Contact with external performance test laboratories to agree on test conditions, offer and price (related to the product categorie(s) responsible for).

Key Result Areas:

  • Deliver NPD and EPD on time, meeting customer and internal targets, at agreed variable and production costs.
  • All developments can be produced within our factories using agreed methodologies and to agreed efficiency of physical, chemical and microbiological standards.
  • Delivers and generates COPs to guarantee continuous product optimization.
  • Develop and/stability/performance test new products according to agreed priorities and delivery dates,, ensuring 100% adherence to correct procedures
  • Undertake testing protocols with 100% adherence to requirements of laboratory approval standard.
  • Departmental standards and audits e.g. 5S / Planned Inspections – personal actions completed to schedule.
  • Ensure Competitor database is up to date at all times
  • Demonstrate knowledge of category in the quality of new developments and test methods.

Technical Competencies & Qualifications:

(Experience and skills needed to do the job)

  • University Degree of Chemical Engineer – or equivalent
  • Experience in a technical / product development role in FMCG environment (preferable in the HH industry). Please see definition of Jr. Full and Senior at the end of this document.
  • Languages Local language and English is a must; another European language is a plus.
  • IT skills – good knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Outlook, Internet, SAP and EH&S
  • International travel will be required
