R&D Engineer III - Aerospace & Defense
As the R&D Engineer III, you will provide engineering support and technical guidance to material, product, and process development programs. This role focuses on development of aerospace materials for high temperature applications.
Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Develop and scale processes for non-oxide ceramics.
- Fabricate components, coatings and other prototypes for high temperature applications.
- Collaborate with government, military and academic partners for materials development and testing.
- Conduct engineering experiments on new materials, products, processes, and/or procedures.
- Take a major role in projects to optimize and improve existing materials, products, processes, and/or procedures.
- Lead individual project plan development, execution, and reporting activities to support CoorsTek project management activities.
- Devise advanced research methods and documents results and procedures.
- Exercise responsibility for multiple pieces of processing and/or analytical equipment.
- Recommend new or upgrades to existing process and test equipment.
- Work collaboratively with the Operations and Commercial sectors of the company, providing guidance in his or her areas of expertise.
- Promote the company’s safety culture and continuous improvement efforts.
- Direct the activities of technicians.
- Coordinate pilot-plant or initial production runs on new products or processes.
Job Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, or related Engineering field, and at least five years relevant experience.
- Or: Master’s degree in Materials Science, or related Engineering field, and at least three years relevant experience.
- Or: PhD degree in Materials Science, or Engineering field.
- Prior experience with high temperature materials testing preferred.
- Prior experience with carbide, borides, and/or nitrides preferred.
Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of ceramic materials and processing.
- Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, detail-oriented person necessary.
- Team player.
- Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
Position Specific Requirements:
- Must be a US citizen and able to obtain a DOW security clearance.
Target Hiring Range
Annual Salary: USD 103,000.00 - USD 136,000.00
