The Raw Material Manager is responsible for the day-to-day execution of purchasing and scheduling raw materials to be delivered to all plants in quantities and quality levels that meet the needs of the facilities. Analyzes market changes and trends brought forth by the Raw Material Buyer.
Directly manage the purchasing process of all raw materials from approved suppliers needed to produce the company’s products in quantity and quality levels necessary to satisfy marketing demands.
Reviews current raw material vendor base and investigates alternative suppliers to ensure the least possible cost to all Smithfield plant facilities.
Works with both internal and external suppliers to ensure raw materials are delivered on time and in sufficient quantities
to maximize plant production schedules.
Handles all direct negotiations with suppliers regarding any raw material claims.
Responsible for resolving and documenting all raw material claims.
Evaluates existing and future raw material market conditions and reports opportunities for speculative purchases to those in a position of decision-making authority. Acts as the SAP Gatekeeper for raw materials. Processes daily Market Wire- noon trades and full report after market is closed. Provides accounting with pricing to update SAP/cost system weekly.
Is the industry information expert and works with Business Management teams to forecast purchase needs for future production years.

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ year’s related experience; equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required
Strong knowledge Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel). Prior SAP experience, preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must have good planning, organizational and execution skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and established goals and objectives in a fast-paced environment. Must have strong negotiation skills.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.
Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
