Job Summary: About the Position: Serves as a Range Operations Officer often working independently to assist the Range Officer, in planning, coordinating, and monitoring the daily range operations of the range and training area complex. In the absence of the Range Officer, responsible for the command and control of the Range Division. This is a TERM posititon not to exceed 2 years.

Major Duties:

  • Technical authority on all matters pertaining to the scheduling, conduct of live fire training, range utilization, range safety.
  • Prepare documents supporting various installation range plans.
  • Direct assigned personnel in all aspects of their job in order to clarify the direction of the contract.
  • Evaluate performance of assigned personnel to ensure that work is being performed within the Scope of Work of the contract.
  • Provide technical, tactical, and managerial guidance on all matters pertaining to planning, scheduling and execution of the daily range operation mission.
  • Serve as point of contact for budget matters impacting or pertaining to the daily ranges and training facilities operations.
  • Plan work to be accomplished, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare work schedules.
  • Assign work based on priorities, consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Range and training facility safety requirements, planning, scheduling and execution of the daily range operation mission; 2) Weapons and ammunition characteristics, providing range support to using units conducting of live-fire training, range safety, range design, maintenance and operations; and 3) Analyzing data to produce statistical comparisons of efficiencies and inefficiencies and make recommendations for modifications to existing ranges, training areas, or operating procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and Management Leadership Planning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
