Strathcona is excited to offer an opportunity for a Rail Operator to join our team at the Hamlin Facility. Reporting to the Lead Rail Operator, this role supports maintaining safe, efficient operations with minimal downtime. The ideal candidate is highly motivated; exercises sound judgment and communicates effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Functions
Operate facility equipment and support daily maintenance activities
Participate in Strathcona’s maintenance and integrity programs
Demonstrate strong safety leadership and support the Safety Management Plan
Troubleshoot, repair, and resolve process issues
Monitor and control facility conditions and maintain accurate documentation, including safety, environmental, operator, and maintenance records
Perform safety, environmental, and regulatory duties such as hazard identification, equipment lockout, emergency response, and safe work procedures
Communicate effectively with Strathcona personnel, departments, and service providers
Load railcars, including pre- and post-load inspections and loading system connections
Monitor and assist with incoming truck volumes
Conduct facility inspections and maintain site cleanliness
Skills & Qualifications
Experience in a crude-by-rail facility and/or prior facility or process operations experience preferred
Class 1 railroad or industrial railroad operating experience an asset
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and mentorship abilities
Commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental best practices
Integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and strong decision-making skills
Self-motivated, open-minded, results-oriented, and able to take initiative to drive improvements
Conducts business professionally, ethically, and with a focus on community responsibility
Work Environment
Must be able to work in all weather conditions
Position follows a 7-on / 7-off schedule, alternating between day and night shifts
