APM Terminals Pipavav, located in Gujarat, is one of India’s leading gateway ports offering integrated logistics and terminal services. PURPOSE

  • Under supervision of the Harbour Master, this position handles all communication systems to ensure the safe movement of vessels and other marine activities in and around the port.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Maintains radio/wireless communication with all vessels in and around the port, thus facilitating their movement and use of port facilities.
  • Maintains radar coverage of the marine activities and vessel movements in and around the port.
  • Maintains radio interaction on an as needed basis with ships, pilots, tugs, the Coast Guard and Navy vessels.
  • Maintains interaction with shipping agents for smooth shipping activity and port clearance process.
  • Carries out routine rounds (inspections) along all berths and jetties to ensure safe conduct of vessels alongside.
  • Collects and maintains weather information from available instruments.
  • Makes the necessary entries in the radio logbook in accordance with the required operational procedures.
  • Maintains a full and proper record of vessel berthing details.
  • Through radio contact, informs pilots, tug captains and quayside operators of berthing/unberthing of ships or any other vessel movement within the port.
  • Responds to emergencies and SOS signals, following internationally recognized procedures and maintains constant communication among the Coast Guard, port officials and the concerned vessel.
  • Prepares and maintains daily/weekly/monthly vessel schedules.
  • Maintains all marine publications for easy reference.
  • Participates in any emergency requiring Marine Department support, as appropriate.
  • The key impact of these incumbents will be the maintenance of operational efficiencies to ensure smooth vessel movement at the Port

CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

(IPE Factor: Knowledge)

  • Requires a college degree preferably from a marine academy or naval college or Intermediate Passed with 5+ Years of port / Marine work experiences respectively. 
  • Requires two to three years of experience in a similar or related position.
  • Valid Radio Telephony certificate of proficiency, or a higher certificate issued by Ministry of Communication.  
  • Should have Radar simulator certificate from an Institute recognized by shipping authorities.
  •  Must have general knowledge of local and other maritime laws and regulations, including international maritime conventions, and port rules and regulations.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with all types of vessels that call at port.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety procedures that apply to vessels in and around the port.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with emergency rescue operations at sea or in the port or surrounding area.
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in wireless/radio frequency communications equipment, including certification.
  • Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English.  Knowledge of local language preferred
  • Requires good interpersonal skills, interacting with multiple departments and customer clients.
  • Ability to complete documents and log books neatly, accurately and completely.
  • Requires ability to work independently, with little supervision.
  • Must be able to operate radio communications equipment and vessel traffic management systems.
