As a Manager in Quoting, you will lead a financially focused team responsible for preparing and refining proposals and quotes for our customers across multiple business areas. You will collaborate with account teams and stakeholders across multiple countries through both direct and matrixed management of local resources, driving accuracy, efficiency, and excellence in every customer interaction. Summarized Purpose: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Quoting Manager to lead our proposal and quoting operations within the Proposals team. In this role, you will oversee a team of Proposal/Quote Specialists responsible for developing accurate, timely, and competitive quotes and proposals that align with customer needs and Thermo Fisher’s strategic objectives. You will serve as the local site lead for the quoting function, ensuring operational excellence, staff development, and effective collaboration across multiple business units. This position plays a critical role in advancing our automation strategy and driving continuous improvement across the proposal process. Key Responsibilities: Leadership & People Management Lead and develop a team of Proposal/Quote Specialists, providing coaching, mentoring, and career development aligned with Thermo Fisher’s talent strategy. Directly supervises team leaders, individual contributors, and / or administrative support. Foster effective collaboration between quoting teams and SMEs to drive consistency and quality across complex proposals. Manage staffing, performance reviews, goal setting, and workload balancing to ensure optimal team productivity and employee engagement. Operational Excellence Oversee daily operations of the proposal and quoting process across multiple business units, ensuring consistent quality, accuracy, and timeliness. Provide strategic oversight of the quoting process to ensure technical accuracy, operational feasibility, and alignment with business objectives. Maintain accountability for complex and high-value quotes, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and customer requirements. Monitor key performance indicators (e.g., turnaround times, win rates, quote accuracy) and implement corrective actions where necessary. Partner with sales, operations, and finance leadership to align pricing strategies with business objectives and market competitiveness. Process Improvement & Technology Enablement Drive standardization and automation initiatives across quoting workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability. Partner with IT and Commercial Operations to optimize use of quoting (e.g., CPQ) and CRM (e.g., Salesforce) systems, integrating data analytics to support decision-making. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to elevate the customer experience and streamline internal processes. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to quoting processes, systems, Word and Excel, ensuring smooth operations, and minimizing disruptions. Stakeholder Collaboration Act as a key liaison between Commercial Finance, Sales, Operations, and Business Development to ensure smooth proposal development and execution. Represent the quoting function in cross-functional projects, regional leadership meetings, and global process harmonization initiatives. Serve as the local site leader, maintaining visibility of team activities and representing Quoting services within the broader site leadership community. Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Business is required; MBA or advanced degree preferred. Experience: 5–8 years of experience in commercial finance, pricing, proposal management, or related fields. 3-4 years of leadership responsibility. Proficiency in English (verbal and written). Technical Skills: Strong command of financial modeling, pricing analysis, and commercial metrics. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, macros, data analysis). Experience with CRM (Salesforce) and CPQ Platforms. Key Competencies: Proven leadership and team development abilities. Excellent analytical and strategic problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to collaborate across matrixed, global teams. Demonstrated success in managing process transitions or technology implementations. Good knowledge and understanding of contractual documents. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a diverse group of colleagues in various locations.
