The Opportunity
The Commercial Asset Planning team is seeking a Quantitative Risk Engineer to support quantitative risk assessments and data analytics for Canada Gas assets. This role provides an opportunity to expand knowledge of risk-based decision making within the Canada Gas commercial and regulatory framework, as it relates to service reliability, probabilistic methods, and predictive insights.


What you’ll do

  • Work within a collaborative team to complete quantitative risk assessments on natural gas assets across Canada
  •  Utilize a strong understanding of statistical theories to contribute to the development of commercial risk models
  •  Support hydraulic modeling to determine probabilistic pipeline system capacities
  •  Analyze historical and forecasted operational and market data to assess probabilistic long and short-term requirements
  • Utilize Monte Carlo simulation techniques for comprehensive risk modeling
  • Conduct data analysis to derive actionable insights for risk management
  • Incorporate pipeline and facility integrity knowledge to risk modeling
  • Apply innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex risk scenarios
  • Leverage expertise in probability distributions to enhance risk assessments
  • Foster a cooperative and innovative work culture


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized institution 
  • Must be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer with APEGA
  • 8+ years or more of progressive experience (including graduate studies)
  • Highly motivated individual with strong analytical skills who can work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Knowledge and experience in quantitative risk assessment, probabilistic analysis, and data analytics
  • Strong understanding of statistical theories
  • Familiarity with the physical and commercial operations of Canada Gas assets
  • Knowledge of pipeline system hydraulics and hydraulic simulation tools (SynerGi)
  • Experience with Monte Carlo Simulation methods
  • Proficiency with @Risk or equivalent tools
  • Advanced programming skills (Visual Basic, C+, and Python)
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of pipeline integrity threat management practices
  • Understanding of facilities reliability and integrity management
  • Familiarity with TC Energy master plan data
  • Familiarity with TC Energy data sources (historical flow, forecasting, compressor availability and reliability datasets)
  • Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Experience in Machine Learning and other advanced analytical methodologies
  • Demonstrated project management skills
