About the team:

The Governance Department is vital in supporting the distillation and maturation processes at the Diageo Gimli Distillery to ensure the production of high-quality whisky for the Crown Royal Brand. The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized, meticulous professional with an unwavering commitment to accuracy, safety, and consistent production. As a guardian of excellence, you will play a critical role in ensuring our output meets both internal and customer expectations.

Position Type:

The Quality Specialist is a full-time position.

Schedule: Variable shifts including days, weekends, as needed.

Training: On the job training provided for all tasks.
 

About the role:

As a member of the site’s governance team, the Quality Specialist is responsible for application of Diageo quality standards on-site. This includes the operation and maintenance of the site’s quality laboratory, and other tasks as required. The Quality Specialist is integral in ensuring that key testing criteria are completed and communicated in a timely manner. The Quality Specialist will also be responsible for data entry, sample shipments, and administrative assistance.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Testing and inspection of incoming grain to ensure conformance to specifications.

  • Analytical testing on process samples and finished product to ensure adherence to specifications.

  • Operation of various laboratory instruments, including HPLC, moisture analyzer, and NIR Spectrometer.

  • Yeast cell counts

  • Sensory analysis of distillates and maturates.

  • Maintain Sensory Laboratory, sensory standards, and sample shipping.

  • Support compliance to ISO 9001 and the Quality Management System\.

  • Tracking of laboratory consumables.

  • Deliver on Quality Objectives as assigned.

  • Follow Safe Work Procedures

  • Other duties as assigned by the Governance Team.

Experience / skills required:
If you are self-motivated, have a strong desire to learn, a meticulous eye for detail, and a passion for problem-solving, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not have 100% of the experience listed below.

  • Relevant post-secondary education (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Agriculture, etc.)

  • 2+ years experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Experience with HPLC analysis.

  • Proficient with computers, having good skills with MS Excel and MS Outlook.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.

  • Strong communication and writing skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work will both on a team and individual basis.

  • Strong sensory ability (sight, smell, and taste).
