BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as Intern for Quality Engineering at our new production plant in Viana, Portugal.

Project:

Reduce scrap and work on preventing contamination by metallic particles.

Responsibilities:

  • Initial Diagnosis

    • Map the production line to identify critical points with higher risk of metallic contamination.
    • Analyze scrap history, focusing on leakage and short-circuit failures.
    • Identify contamination sources (particles, tool residues, cleaning failures, etc.).
  • Processes and Procedures

    • Audit tools and equipment to check for wear or failures generating metallic particles.
    • Ensure ESD and grounding controls are in place to prevent electrostatic interference.
    • Review handling procedures and operator practices to avoid contamination.
  • Data and Indicators

    • Track KPIs such as scrap percentage due to contamination and short-circuit failure rates.
    • Prepare quality reports documenting occurrences, root causes, and corrective/preventive actions.
    • Use Pareto analysis to prioritize improvement actions.
  • Improvement Actions

    • Propose process improvements (e.g., material changes, physical barriers, new cleaning methods).
    • Support or create training sessions for operators on contamination risks.
    • Validate and monitor the effectiveness of implemented improvements.

Profile:

  • Academic background in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Production, Quality, or similar).

    Interest in Quality, Manufacturing, and Process Improvement.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Knowledge of quality tools and production processes (preferred).

    Good organizational and communication skills.

    Proactive and detail-oriented.
