Quality Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Tarkett is seeking a Quality Engineer to join the team in Dalton, GA. The individual selected for this role will report to the Director of Quality and is responsible for representing the voice of the customer in product design and manufacturing processes, improving and maintaining our quality management system, ensuring continuous product conformance and compliance, developing, tracking and improving internal and external KPIs, auditing and improving processes, leading and executing problem investigations and problem solving activities, leading and participating in productivity improvements within the assigned manufacturing facilities. This position will work collaboratively with assigned plant(s) within the North American Soft Surface division in Dalton, GA, to ensure that a quality product is delivered to the customers safely, on time, and at the lowest cost.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop expertise in our manufacturing processes and study process capabilities through data-driven analysis and in-depth knowledge of our products.
  • Supervise, Coach and Mentor Quality Technicians in assigned areas.
  • Lead and coach CAPA problem solving teams to successful results by quickly containing suspect material, identifying root causes and taking actions to eliminate the causes.
  • Analyze data from various sources to identify trends in quality and efficiency.
  • Develop robust and clear data collection, visualization, and analysis tools.
  • Participate and represent Manufacturing and the Voice of the Customer in New Product Development processes.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional teams to develop and maintain process documentation and guidance (ie: Functional Analysis, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Standardized Work documents, One Point Lessons, SPC, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility, Craftsmanship Standards, etc).
  • Partner with internal teams to continually improve products and processes.
  • Develop and communicate succinctly summarized data analysis and project overviews
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and written
  • Partner with the Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and Supervisors to own processes and understand performance metrics in order to identify key areas needing process improvements and addressing trends that demonstrate process breakdowns.
  • Manage workload with a positive attitude as a team player in a collaborative work environment.

REQUIREMENTS (including educational requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required. (Degree/Certification coupled with extensive prior experience may be considered.)
  • Six Sigma experience is preferred.
  • Prior experience in carpet, textile, or plastic extrusion manufacturing is preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of prior experience in quality or process engineering role, in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience with creating, implementing and maintaining Functional Analysis, DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, Standardized Work documents, One Point Lessons, SPC, Gage Repeatability & Reproducibility, and Craftsmanship Standards.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing problem solving and leading teams with various CAPA tools (ie: 4D, 8D, 5W/2H, 5-Why, Ishikawa Diagrams, etc).
  • Must have a solid understanding of Statistical Process Control and ability to roll out, train and react appropriately to indicators in the SPC data.
  • Must have the skills to develop and communicate succinctly summarized data analysis and project overviews.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be very hands-on to the processes and active on the shop floor working with operators for improvements.
  • Must be people focused – collaborative and always placing safety first.
  • Must be results oriented – operating a high level of performance and working with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Must be able to own and execute – meeting commitments and doing what we say we are going to do.
