About the role

We are looking for an experienced Quality Engineer to join our Customer & Sales team working across some exciting projects and initiatives within the customer facing Bunnings Mobile Apps.

You’ll be working in a mobile‑first tribe responsible for our iOS and Android apps built in React Native. Quality Engineering is embedded in the squad and plays a critical role in ensuring fast, safe delivery to millions of customers.

As a Quality Engineer, you will help drive outcomes by maintaining and expanding on the existing automation testing suites. Day-to-day activities will include enhancing test automation suites, analysing test failures, increasing test coverage, and supporting other team members with test automation approaches. Further, you will contribute ideas and improvements to test automation practices and tooling, learning from and working alongside senior Quality Engineers

What’s involved:

  • Manage, update, and enhance our Detox-based test automation suite
  • Testing and verification of GraphQL and REST based APIs including enhancement of the test suites
  • Analyse requirements - designing, improving, and developing new API and Detox test cases
  • Participate in planning, technical design review, estimation and requirements elicitation workshops; defining the automation and manual test approach and test process to support feature delivery
  • Ensure that the test automation framework and automation code adhere to testing best practices and coding standards
  • Support continuous integration and continuous delivery through automation

Who we’re looking for

This is a hands-on role that will have you focusing on test automation by creating and maintaining automation scripts, and reporting defects and enhancements. Manual testing in this role is primarily exploratory and release‑focused, complementing a strong automated test suite rather than replacing it.

You will work closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineers within your squad during functional and operational QE phases, so strong communication and the ability to build positive relationships is critical. You bring a pragmatic and positive approach to your work and enjoy advocating for good Quality Engineering practices within your squad and immediate teams.

You’ll need:

  • Demonstrated mobile app UI automation experience (Detox preferred; experience with other frameworks also considered)
  • Proven manual QA experience with iOS and Android
  • Demonstrated experience testing APIs, including GraphQL (queries, mutations, schema validation), using tools such as .NET test frameworks and Bruno
  • Programming skills in TypeScript (mandatory) and .NET (desirable)
  • Hands-on involvement in complete mobile app release cycle for complex features (front-end & back-end)
  • Ability to plan, execute, and report testing autonomously.
  • Ability to create/manage test data independently across integrated systems.
  • Proven experience across various software testing methods, levels, types, and processes and understanding of where they fit in the overall system and product development lifecycles
  • Ability to advise stakeholders and other team members in developing automated testing approaches that deliver the greatest benefit and coverage, with the least amount of maintenance and support
  • Proven experience in QE practices, understanding of functions in a development team, and experience working on large scale projects
  • Support CI/CD pipelines for mobile apps, with hands‑on experience running Detox tests in Bitrise. Exposure to GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps for supporting services or API test execution is beneficial.
  • To be comfortable with basic source control management using git
  • Experience in some of the following tools: Jira, Confluence, Bitrise, Azure DevOps, Github, Bruno & BrowserStack
  • Experience assessing API or mobile application performance (e.g. backend performance, app responsiveness, startup time) is desirable
  • Experience with accessibility is desirable
  • Experience testing both web applications and mobile applications is a bonus

You’ll be part of a workplace where you’ll feel like you belong.
