Key Accountabilities:

  • Understand calibration and verification of measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, torque tools, pressure gauges, and temperature sensors.
  • Calibrate specialized gauges used in ICE manufacturing, including crankshaft, camshaft, cylinder bore, piston, valve train, and fuel system components.
  • Maintain and update calibration records, certificates, and history in calibration management systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Identify, label, and segregate out-of-calibration or damaged tools and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support internal and external audits related to calibration and metrology.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and maintenance teams to minimize downtime due to tool unavailability.
  • Handle vendor calibration activities and evaluate calibration reports for accuracy and compliance.
  • Analyze calibration trends and recommend preventive actions to improve measurement system reliability.
  • Assist in Gauge R&R studies and measurement system analysis (MSA).
  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and environmental control of calibration equipment and standards.
  • Support new product launches and process changes with timely calibration readiness.
  • Perform special projects

Basic Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metrology, or related field.
  • Certification in Metrology or Calibration
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in internal combustion engine or automotive manufacturing.
  • This position has a compressed work schedule that requires four (4) ten (10) hour days during a Monday through Thursday work week, and the position is eligible for overtime as business requires with causal overtime expected.

Preferred:

  • Familiar with plant operations and equipment
  • Knowledge of MTU components and products
  • Knowledge of Computer, Copier, Phone and Fax
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical metrology and dimensional measurement.
  • Hands-on experience with ICE components and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of measurement uncertainty, traceability, and tolerance analysis.
  • Familiarity with calibration software and documentation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of statistical quality tools and MSA techniques.
  • Good problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

While performing tasks for this position, the employee is regularly requested to perform work on a computer inside and outside of the work environment. Also, the employee will be occasionally requested to come in contact with wet environmental conditions. Finally, the employee will frequently hear noise while performing task in the work environment.
 

While performing physical demands of the position, regularly the employee will be requested to stand, sit, walk, climb and stoop. However, the employee will be frequently be requested to balance, kneel, crouch, reach, and squat. Finally, an employee will be frequently requested to grasp and manipulate items in a maneuverable manner to perform daily tasks.

Employees will be occasionally required to push, pull, carry, lift and or move materials within the work environment. The materials will weigh between 10-50 pounds and the employee will be occasionally requested to move materials during the course of a week. Specific vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus and employee must have the ability to see in color. The employee must also be able to inspect MTU America engine products under a fluorescent black light.
