Position Summary
The Quality Inspector I plays a critical role in ensuring that materials, components, and assemblies meet Vanderlande’s quality standards and customer specifications. This position supports inbound, in‑process, and final inspections while collaborating closely with production, warehouse, and quality teams. The role directly contributes to on‑time delivery, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across the value stream.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect incoming materials, in‑process components, and finished products to ensure conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards
Review and interpret blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols (AWS & ISO standards)
Perform dimensional checks using variable and attribute measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, tape measures, angle finders)
Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) for new or revised products
Document inspection results, complete QC checklists, and upload records into the Quality Management System (QMS)
Support Quality Engineers, Team Leads, and Supervisors with quality‑related activities and investigations
Identify non‑conformances, adopt an investigative mindset to detect anomalies, and report issues promptly
Assist with training newly hired QC Inspectors as needed
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent
2+ years of experience in Quality Control, manufacturing, or a related field
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
Knowledge of basic inspection tools and quality equipment, including calibration requirements
Working knowledge of 5S/6S and OSHA safety standards
Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong attention to detail and ability to work carefully, consistently, and independently
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a team‑based environment with cross‑functional partners
Preferred
Technical or Bachelor’s degree
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or familiarity with Lean / Kaizen principles
Knowledge of FMEA, Process Capability Studies, Control Plans, and Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
Previous experience inspecting metal components and assemblies
ISO 9001 knowledge or experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong sense of shared responsibility for product quality within the value stream
Ability to follow instructions and established procedures with minimal supervision
Analytical and problem‑solving mindset
Willingness to learn and continuously improve
Ability to work safely in accordance with OSHA requirements
Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full‑time position, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Schedule may change based on business needs. Overtime, weekends, and shift work may be required.
Travel
Up to 25% travel may be required.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The Quality Inspector I works primarily in a warehouse and manufacturing environment. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise from industrial equipment, and typical warehouse conditions. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
Physical demands include:
Standing and walking for extended periods
Bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing
Frequently lifting and moving materials, including items weighing up to 75 pounds
Performing repetitive tasks with limited breaks
