The Role:

The Quality Assurance Assistant will support the Product Development department in managing and enhancing the Second Harvest Food Rescue App. This position will aid in the identification of user technical issues within the app, creating detailed tickets and escalating concerns to the Development Team. This role will also support in conducting manual testing of bug fixes in order to verify solutions implemented in the app.

 

Your Impact:

  • Execute manual and automated tests to ensure the quality, reliability, and usability of the Second Harvest Food Rescue App.
  • Write, update, and maintain automated end-to-end tests using Playwright, following established patterns and best practices.
  • Validate new functionality across web browsers and devices to ensure a consistent and accessible user experience.
  • Identify, document, and track bugs clearly and thoroughly, including steps to reproduce and expected vs. actual behaviour.
  • Re-test fixes and improvements to confirm issues are resolved and do not introduce regressions.
  • Support regression testing before releases to help ensure smooth and reliable deployments.
  • Review product requirements, designs, and user stories with a quality-first mindset, flagging potential edge cases early.
  • Contribute to improving QA processes, test coverage, and documentation over time.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups and team meetings with Product team to identify priorities and challenges.
  • Perform other related duties as required/assigned to support the overall goals of the organization.

 

Who You Are:

  • Funded through Canada Summer Jobs, to be eligible for this opportunity, candidates must:
    • be Youth between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
  • Available to work for the entire contract duration.
  • Detail-Oriented: you are proud of your work and know that cutting corners isn’t an option; you are thorough and accurate with strong data entry and data processing abilities.
  • Organized: you have excellent project and time management skills; you have a very keen attention to detail, coupled with the ability to multitask.
  • Communicative: you have a knack for making complex ideas seem clear and simple; team members and peers always know what you’re up to.
  • Customer-Focused: you are slightly obsessive when it comes to user experience, and you strive to deliver a product that is second to none.
  • Experienced in software quality assurance (at least 1 year).
  • Familiar with Kanban boards such as Jira or Microsoft DevOps Boards.
  • Knowledgeable in QA testing methodologies and practices.
  • Able to perform smoke testing, system testing, system integration testing, and regression testing.
  • Willing to hit the ground running, learn on the job, and resolve situations with a positive attitude.
