We are seeking a dedicated QHSE Engineer to fulfil the role of Prevention Officer as mandated by Belgian and Dutch law, ensuring occupational health and safety standards are met and continuously improved.
Main responsibilities:
This role will ensure the implementation of QHSE policies, risk assessments, incident investigations, and employee training in accordance with applicable legislation in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The QHSE Engineer / Prevention Officer will be part of our European Health and Safety Team and responsible for proactively managing and coordinating activities on QHSE matters within the assigned Region; in particular, but not limited:
- Implement and maintain company-wide health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions, in pursuant of compliance to Belgian and Dutch regulations (e.g. Belgian Well-being Act, Dutch Working Conditions Act).
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate workplace hazards through workplace inspections and systematic risk assessment of facilities, machinery and TEL Equipment; proactively recommending corrective actions, improvement and training opportunities.
- Ensure that appropriate technical, physical, and organizational measures are in place to prevent accidents and occupational illnesses.
- Act as the liaison with government regulatory bodies (e.g., Belgium's FPS Employment, Labor and Social Dialogue; Netherlands' Inspectorate SZW) and external prevention providers.
- Establish an efficient working relationship with all internal departments, on QHSE subjects, ensure the safety of on-field personnel working at customer sites and manage safety and quality incident escalations.
- Implement company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, hazardous material handling, emergency response, hygiene, and safety.
- Monitor QHSE activities within the Region; prepare deliver required status reports; monitor and analyse key safety performance indicators, compile reports, and present findings to management, highlighting areas of improvement.
- Lead investigations of workplace accidents, quality incidents, and near misses to determine root causes. Develop and monitor corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence. Prepare reports and notify authorities when legally obliged.
- Lead Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) investigations, document 8D report ensuring containment, causes and preventive actions are adequately defined.
- Maintain a high level of technical and regulatory knowledge to provide constant support as subject matter export, on QHSE subjects within the Region.
- Design and conduct QHSE training programs for employees and management, ensuring awareness of the workplace risks and safe work practices.
- Promote a culture of safety, excellence and continuous improvement in all aspects of safety and quality, at all levels of the organization.
- Assist in the development and periodic updating of emergency response plans, ensuring the readiness of the organization in emergency situations.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, respecting diversity and maintaining strict adherence to all relevant compliance and regulatory requirements.
Based on business needs, the QHSE Engineer is available for business travels within the region or at an international level.
Skills and Knowledge:
- First (Bachelors, degree)/Subject Diploma IOSH/NEBOSH/CQA/IMEA, engineering or equivalent level of knowledge/experience through other routes (apprenticeships, previous employment etc).
- Proven experience (2+ years) as a Health and Safety Engineer or a similar role in an engineering setting.
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations in Belgium and Netherlands.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential hazards and develop effective preventive measures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish cross-functional collaboration with internal and external stake holders.
- Proficient in using various software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and industry-specific safety management systems.
- Professional certifications like Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) are desirable. Certified Prevention Advisor is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and consistently meet deadlines.
- Maintain a high standard of documentation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Communicates effectively through agreed and appropriate communications channels. Fluent knowledge of English and Dutch is essential. French is a plus.
