The Team

The Morningstar Design System (MDS) team works to unify our brand across products and services to deliver consistent, high-quality on-brand experiences. Our team partners with individuals to implement our brand strategy and transform our design standards into beautiful, usable, and trusted user experiences. Our products are used by technology teams building software products, by individuals crafting data visualizations, and by designers working on projects spanning the whole of our company’s operations.

The Role

In this role, you will develop processes ensuring the quality and stability of our deliveries by testing our technology products through a combination of automated processes, software tools, and ad-hoc, hands-on interactions with our products. You will become an expert user of the MDS code libraries and of Chart Lab, our flagship data visualization tool. You will leverage emerging technologies, including AI-assisted processes, to accelerate the delivery of test cases, to identify defects, and report outcomes. You will partner closely with other members of the team, especially in the domains of security and release processes, and will assist in responding to support requests from our users. This role is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully within a cross-functional, Agile environment while building a strong foundation in automation testing practices, and gaining broad exposure to the company.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of QA requirements and guidance for technology squad
• Define and establish QA strategy and process spanning across the MDS team
• Maintain automated release pipelines and integrated tests
• Manage regular releases for software products outside of US business hours
• Participate in team calls, chats, standups, planning activities, and retrospectives
• Manage and report regular updates on project status (e.g. work completed, work in progress, next steps, risks, blockers, etc.) to stakeholders, peers, project leads, and others

Requirements

• Expertise in UI automation using JavaScript and tools such as Nightwatch, CypressIO, WebdriverIO, and Playwright with 2 + years of experience.
• Experience in API testing (manual and automated).
• Advanced knowledge of JavaScript libraries like JQuery, Angular, and Vue.js.
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services, especially CloudWatch, is a plus.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools like Jira, TestRail, or similar.
• Ability to define the right strategy and technology based on process and architecture assessment by engaging different roles and stakeholders.
• Familiarity with performance and security testing tools is a plus.
• Ability to work as both an individual contributor and a team lead, driving quality initiatives independently and defining a long-term QA strategy.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a self-driven mindset.
