Ameresco is seeking a highly analytical, detail-oriented, and compliance-focused professional to support real-time monitoring, operational controls, data analytics, and NERC regulatory compliance for Solar, Energy Storage, and Grid-connected assets. This role is based on-site at the Westborough, MA office and includes overnight operational responsibilities. The position blends technical operations, data analysis, and regulatory stewardship to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant system performance.
Responsibilities:
Monitor real-time data from Solar PV and Energy Storage (BESS) sites to identify anomalies, performance deviations, and operational issues.
Remotely diagnose, troubleshoot, and reset equipment, including PV and BESS systems.
Handle complex and critical system issues in a timely manner, coordinating with technical teams as needed.
Collaborate with engineering, field operations, and control center staff to resolve system issues and implement corrective actions.
Support the use and implementation of SCADA, EMS, OMS, and monitoring platforms to maintain reliable and efficient operations.
Analyze operational performance metrics to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization.
Analyze system performance data to ensure optimal efficiency, reliability, and compliance with industry standards.
Utilize data analytics and visualization tools (Python, SQL, Excel, Power BI, Tableau) to present insights to management and engineering teams.
Support predictive analytics and forecasting models for preventative maintenance and performance improvement.
Maintain data integrity by ensuring accurate, timely documentation of analytical findings and operational events.
Investigate historical operating trends to support asset optimization and future system design improvements.
Lead the development, implementation, and management of Ameresco’s NERC compliance program, ensuring all Generator Operator obligations are fulfilled.
Maintain current knowledge of NERC, FERC, and Regional Entity standards, including regulatory changes, alerts, directives, and compliance expectations.
Monitor and interpret evolving regulatory requirements and update internal policies, procedures, and evidence accordingly.
Coordinate internal audits, self-certifications, spot checks, data submissions, RFIs, and investigations.
Serve as the Primary Compliance Contact (PCC) for regulatory bodies and lead all formal compliance engagements.
Maintain a robust compliance documentation repository, ensuring audit readiness and evidence accuracy.
Conduct compliance risk assessments, gap analyses, and continuous monitoring to identify vulnerabilities and recommend mitigations.
Develop and deliver compliance and operational training to internal stakeholders.
Ensure operational practices align with relevant NERC standards, including Operations Planning, Real-Time Operations, and Emergency Operations.
Develop and manage operational control processes that support reliable, safe, and compliant system operation.
Serve as the escalation point for operational issues, balancing timely resolution with risk mitigation.
Monitor operational controls for effectiveness and recommend improvements based on lessons learned and industry best practices.
Lead root-cause analyses for operational deviations or control failures and drive corrective actions.
Support emergency preparedness, response planning, and reliability drills.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent application of operational policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Management, Power Systems, Business, or related field (Electrical Engineering strongly preferred).
2+ years of experience in solar PV/BESS operations and maintenance.
5+ years of experience in electric utility operations, system operations, or compliance (or equivalent combined experience).
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with NERC System Operator requirements (Certification preferred).
Experience with data analytics, monitoring platforms, SCADA/EMS/OMS, and renewable energy asset management systems.
Electrical engineering degree or electrical license with 2+ years of solar O&M experience.
NERC System Operator Certification or active pursuit of certification.
Strong proficiency with Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau, Power BI, or equivalent analytical tools.
Experience with audit preparation, evidence management, and regulatory reporting.
Understanding of grid-scale energy storage operations, market dynamics, and regulatory frameworks.
Certifications such as CCEP, PMP, Six Sigma, energy analytics, or data science.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently, including during overnight shifts, ensuring seamless shift handoffs.
High attention to detail, integrity, and ability to manage evolving compliance and operational requirements.
