The Pump System Service Technician II performs detailed preventive maintenance, intermediate diagnostics, and mechanically advanced service work on pump systems, rotating equipment, and associated components.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect and test pump performance
- Identify worn or damaged components
- Replace seals and bearings
- Align pump and motor assemblies
- Perform partial pump rebuilds requiring mechanical precision an understanding of pump design
- Interpret service manuals
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Review basic electrical control diagrams
- Support troubleshooting, system adjustments, and component-level repairs
- Perform preventive maintenance duties, including vibration monitoring
- Assess fluid condition and contamination
- Evaluate wear patterns on shafts and impellers
- Confirm proper flow, pressure, and lubrication within the system
- Assist in diagnosing complex system issues by identifying early indicators of mechanical failure
- Evaluate coupling condition
- Perform advanced alignment techniques under supervision or direction
- Independently execute most field and shop tasks
- Perform system removal and reinstallation
- Complete pump base preparation
- Assist with start-up and commissioning procedures
- Collaborate with project personnel
- Provide guidance to junior technicians
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and reliability standard
- Prepare accurate service reports, inspection notes, and customer documentation
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma and/or equivalent.
- Solid mechanical knowledge and mathematical background
- Experience with / Knowledge of: Pumping Well mechanics, Stroke lengths, Corrosion of metal parts, Gas / Oil interface, H2S, Scale, Iron sulfide Problems
- Knowledge of down hole and work over terms
- Experience with rod string sizes, down hole tubing sizes and rod spacing
- Organizational, problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret service manuals, mechanical drawings, and basic electrical control diagrams
- Understanding of pump design and mechanical systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude and precision for repair and rebuild work
- Ability to perform component-level repairs, including seals and bearings replacement
- Experience with pump and motor alignment
- Ability to identify worn or damaged mechanical components
- Capability to support troubleshooting and system adjustments
- Ability to work independently in field and shop environments
- Understanding of safety, quality, and reliability standards
- Ability to follow technical instructions and supervision when needed
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR at all times
- Communication skills, both written and oral, with DNOW field personnel and customers
- Ability to move, disassemble and re-assemble long, sometimes heavy, down hole pumps
- Ability to work without supervision and possibly at a customer’s location
