Publications Specialist Team Lead - I&I, IM or Oncology

As a member of the Publications Management Team (PMT), the Publications Specialist Team Lead, will be primarily responsible for managing the development and execution of global publication plans for multiple products across specified therapeutic areas and manage a team of Publication Specialists (PS) dedicated to one of the TA categories (I&I, IM, Onc). S/he will support Scientific Publication Committees (SPCs) and provide expertise on Pfizer’s publication standards and best practices as well as manage SPC budgets and vendors. Knowledge of external publications guidelines and recommendations is also a requirement.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about current publication trends and practices. A self-starter with innovative ideas and the ability to recommend process improvements is required to support Pfizer’s Bold Moves. The Publications Specialist Team Lead will be expected to lead complex projects within the PMT and across the enterprise with minimal oversight. S/he will analyze publication data to support the needs of the Enterprise and generate insights. This role will work with multi-functional colleagues across the Enterprise and partners external to Pfizer in addition to managing PS also supporting the TA.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and implementation of global publication plans effectively and in adherence with Pfizer’s publication policies aswell as enforce compliance across SPCs
  • Establish and manage publication budgets. Partner with Finance and iMOS on budget forecasts
  • Exercise knowledge and experience in complex situations, make pragmatic decisions and determine the appropriate course of action with minimal oversight
  • Supervise a team of 1-4 PS supporting the TA category as well as Scientific Publication Record Coordinators, if assigned
  • Collaborate with PMT Team Leader, Legal, Compliance and other key stakeholders to resolve issues when necessary
  • Ability to influence others in a matrix setting, including senior leaders and external stakeholders
  • Take initiative and lead change. Highly adaptable to changing and ambiguous situations
  • Recommend and drive innovative solutions across the enterprise
  • Research and conduct analyses of publication data to assess and identify process improvements or for novel publication practices. Suggest best practices for implementation and to scale up, as needed
  • Independently lead projects. Identify required resources and execute upon manager’s approval
  • Respectfully challenge practices, decisions, or ideas to uphold integrity and ethical standards. Once decisions are made, fully support, and implement agreed-upon course of action
  • Engage with external publication professionals and industry members to advance the profession
  • Monitor metrics for key goals, track as needed, and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Manage publication vendors with a respectful and professional approach

Qualifications:

  • Advanced medical/scientific degree (PhD or PharmD) with 5+ years of experience in healthcare, pharma or scientific publishing
  • Masters degree with 7+ years of experience in healthcare, pharma or scientific publishing
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent considered with 8+ years of experience in healthcare, pharma or scientific publishing
  • Extensive knowledge of PUB01-GSOP, ICMJE, GPP, and Pfizer’s publication digital solutions (e.g. Aurora)
  • Strong publications background in therapy area (I&I, IM, or Oncology)
  • Prior team leadership/management experience preferred
  • Experience in leading cross- functional and matrixed teams; independently manages complex and challenging relationships
  • Strong interpersonal skills including negotiating and conflict management
  • Proficient organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage competing projects and effectively prioritize assignments
  • Vendor management experience
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills including data analysis and reporting

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to accommodate global/virtual meetings, as needed for assignments or projects, regardless of time zone

• Overnight travel up to 5% to attend team, department and industry meetings and training sessions


This is a hybrid role requiring you to live within commuting distance and work on-site an average of 2.5 days per week or more as needed.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $176,600.00 to $282,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
