Description:
We are seeking a talented individual to join our External Affairs & Media Relations team at Marsh. This role will be based in New York City and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
As a Public Relations Specialist, you will sit at the center of Marsh’s media strategy — building influential journalist relationships, crafting compelling narratives, and driving earned media coverage that shapes how the world sees one of the leading firms in the industry. From developing proactive story angles and coaching spokespeople to crafting reactive responses and analyzing media trends, this role touches every dimension of modern PR. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where your writing, instincts, and relationships directly impact a globally recognized brand, this is the opportunity for you!
We will count on you to:
- Build and maintain proactive relationships with journalists and media outlets; pitch story ideas and pursue earned media opportunities
- Write, edit, and distribute press releases, statements, bylines, and other external communications; ensure timely approvals and channel-appropriate messaging
- Develop and maintain targeted media lists and contact databases; discover and add new outlets and journalists to expand reach
- Prepare and staff spokespeople for media interviews: produce briefings, draft key messages and likely Q&A, run mock interviews, coordinate logistics and interviewer/staff assignments, and escalate substantive guidance to senior communicators when needed
- Develop proactive narratives and craft timely reactive responses to media issues and emerging stories; coordinate across legal, compliance, and business stakeholders for consistent action
- Monitor, track, and analyze media coverage and trends; summarize findings in concise reports and present actionable recommendations to inform communications strategy
- Segment and evaluate media audiences to refine messaging and outlet selection based on audience mindset and influence
- Represent and protect Marsh’s messages and reputation in all media interactions, ensuring alignment with legal, compliance, and organizational priorities
- Support on-site media logistics and real-time journalist coordination at events to maximize coverage and operational readiness
- Improve PR processes and channels by recommending tools, workflows, measurement approaches, and efficiencies
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in media relations, ideally from a media relations agency or in-house communication team
- Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Resourceful, proactive, and confident in building and maintaining journalist relationships
- Demonstrated ability in exercising discretion and maintaining confidentiality with sensitive information
- Comfortable engaging and meeting with journalists in a variety of settings
- Proficiency in MS Office
What makes you stand out?
- Experience advising and guiding senior stakeholders through media interactions and interviews

- We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have an impact on colleagues, clients, and communities.
