This position is in the STI/HIV Program of the Health Department. The program operates four days a week in the Warren/SW Health Center, and one day at in the Mt. Clemens/Central Health Center.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt - overtime pursuant to Collective Bargaining Agreement or Human Resources and Labor Relations Policy

EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

CURRENT HOURS AND STARTING TIME: Full-time (37.5 hours per week) position. The starting time for this position is 8:00am – 4:30pm.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Program Supervisor, assists in the preliminary provision of sexually transmitted infection prevention, detection, treatment and referral services for clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in disease prevention, detection, treatment, and referral for sexually transmitted infections, specifically for HIV Counseling, Partner Services (PS).

Performs client interviews and HIV pre- and post-test counseling, and conducts field investigations of contacts of reportable sexually transmitted infections

Performs laboratory duties, which included CLIA waived testing, test documentation, packing and shipping of clinical specimens, as needed.

Inputs and maintains data in the database systems, such as the HIV Event System and the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS) and generates reports as needed from various systems. 

Provides STI/HIV education at schools, health fairs and other settings. 

Participates in professional development programs. 

Operates an automobile while performing assigned duties.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience

  • Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test

  • One (1) year experience performing disease investigation or performing field work

  • As a condition of employment, an employee in this classification must possess a Michigan Partner Services (PS) certification and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services HIV Test Counselor certification within the first year of employment.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license, operable automobile and insurance

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a health related field

  • Experience working in a health or sexually transmitted infection or HIV program

  • Speak and understand a language other than English (Bosnian, Serbian, Croatian) is preferred
