The University of Kansas Health System invites applications for a distinguished Clinician Scientist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This exceptional opportunity is ideal for an accomplished, research-focused psychiatrist who is eager to advance the understanding and treatment of mental illness through innovative research, clinical excellence, and academic leadership.  This is a full-time faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant, or Associate, or Professor either on tenure track or non-tenure clinical/scholar track, depending on qualifications and experiences.

Position Overview:

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences integrates clinical care, translational research, and education across The University of Kansas Health System and the University of Kansas Medical Center.

  • Approximately 80% research and 20% clinical responsibilities, with flexibility based on research portfolio and funding.
  • Develop and lead an independent, extramurally funded research program in areas such as neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, psychosis, addiction, brain stimulation, or behavioral neuroscience.
  • Collaborate with established programs in Neuroscience, Cancer Survivorship, Neurodegenerative Disease, and Population Health.
  • Access advanced research infrastructure, including neuroimaging, biostatistics, data science, and clinical trial support through the KU Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) and other core facilities.

Required Qualifications:

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Demonstrated record of sustained extramural research funding (NIH, NIMH, or equivalent)
  • Proven excellence in both research and clinical psychiatry

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in translational or clinical neuroscience, psychopharmacology, neuroimaging, or behavioral intervention research
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary or federally funded research programs
