Apply your technical expertise to complex machinery failures in a specialist engineering role

Sedgwick is a global leader in insurance loss adjusting, helping insurers and businesses understand and resolve complex machinery and equipment insurance claims. This role sits within our Major & Complex Loss (MCL) engineering team, meaning exposure to technically challenging plant failures across NZ.

We are seeking technically strong engineers, ideally with HVAC or refrigeration experience, but are open minded to candidates from a range of technical backgrounds who are looking to apply their expertise in a specialist engineering role offering long‑term career opportunities.

No insurance experience is necessary as full training, structured mentoring, and company funded insurance qualifications are provided.

This role is ideally based in our Newmarket office, but we’re also open to strong applicants based elsewhere in New Zealand.

What You’ll Do

As a Protégé Engineering Loss Adjuster, you’ll work alongside senior engineering adjusters, applying your real‑world mechanical knowledge to investigate machinery failures across commercial and industrial sites. You will help facilitate and resolve complex claims through:

  • Attending site inspections to investigate machinery or plant failures
  • Assessing cause, damage, and evaluating repair options
  • Preparing technical reports in clear, plain English
  • Helping insurers and businesses resolve complex engineering claims
  • Managing your own portfolio of technical claims, delivering excellent customer service
  • Calculating, negotiating, and delivering settlement outcomes
  • Building strong relationships with insurers, brokers, and contractors
  • Continuing your development through structured training

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Part of Sedgwick’s Major & Complex Loss (MCL) engineering team
  • Move into a respected technical engineering role in a leading global organisation
  • Work on high‑value, unique, and complex plant failures
  • Clear career pathway within Sedgwick locally and globally
  • Experienced senior engineers to support your development
  • Competitive salary + company‑funded training and qualifications
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

What You’ll Bring

  • Mechanical and/or electrical engineering qualification or trade qualification
  • Strong hands‑on experience in HVAC, refrigeration, heat pumps, or industrial plant
  • Excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic ability
  • A curious, analytical mindset suited to investigating technical losses
  • Professional, confident communication skills, including conflict resolution
  • Strong written English and numeracy for reports and calculations
  • A genuine interest in continued learning and professional development, including company‑funded qualifications
  • Integrity, reliability, and the ability to work independently
  • The right to work and reside in New Zealand (Sedgwick is an Accredited Employer and can support eligible visa applications)
