Protective Services Supervisor – Simpsonville Medical Center

 

Job Summary: 

The protective services supervisor serves as a first line supervisor directly responsible to the manager/director.  Duties include but are not limited to the first line supervision of the protective services activities throughout the facility and all on-duty activities of employees assigned to his/her squad or team.  They will supervise the protection of persons and property in and around the facility and associated owned or leased properties. They will respond to emergencies by providing service as required.  Performance is evaluated through observation, oral and written reports and by results obtained. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • The protective services supervisor will supervise sworn and non-sworn personnel on his/her assigned team in all areas related to protective service activities at the facility. Supervisors will make decisions, provide directions to subordinates and exercise independent judgement in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Provide directions to the protective service department and facility staff regarding the application and interpretation of policy, procedure, and relevant laws.  They will review written subordinate reports and complete daily shift reports. 

  • Supervisors are expected to lead, motivate and evaluate the work of assigned personnel and make recommendations regarding opportunities for improvement, training needs or disciplinary actions. Routinely inspect uniforms and equipment. Investigate complaints against personnel and respond in a manner that results in appropriate complaint resolution. Keep other supervisors and the manager/director informed of important activities and critical incidents. 

  • Supervisors will oversee investigations into hospital related incidents. They will ensure compliance with the department's MOU, if applicable, with local law enforcement agencies and communicate any criminal case that may be classified as a felony and/or require outside law enforcement resources. Complete appropriate reports and documentation. Have an understanding of court processes and procedures. 

  • Assist with department scheduling as requested to ensure adequate staffing levels. Monitor department productivity. Take On-Call as needed or assigned by manager/director or designee. 

  • Have a good understanding of security technology to include but not limited to cameras, access control and alarm systems. Review body camera video and CCTV for investigations. 

  • Ensures compliance with specific regulatory agencies governing health care delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies.

Education: 

  • High school diploma or GED (required)  

  • Associates degree (preferred) 

 

Required Licensing & Certifications: 

  • Valid driver's license (required) 

  • Basic life support American Heart Association (Required within 6 months of hire) 

  • Ohio Specific - Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy Certification (Mandatory for Police Hires, recommended for all others)  

 

Experience: 

  • 3-5 years of experience in police, safety, or security field (required) 

  • Supervisory experience (required)  

 

Skills & Abilities: 

 

Hard/Tech/Clinical Skills: 

 

  • Basic skills using Microsoft Word 

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use, maintenance, and safety protocols for defensive tools and restraint equipment (e.g., batons, handcuffs, body-worn cameras, soft restraints), in alignment with healthcare regulations and organizational policies. 

 

  • Maintain strong technical skills in radio communication, report writing, surveillance systems, and access control software, with the ability to accurately document incidents and coordinate effectively with clinical teams and law enforcement. 

 

Soft/Interpersonal Skills: 

  • Effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution 

 

Training: 

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (Required within 6 months of hire)  

  • Firearms qualifications; successfully pass bi-annual firearms qualifications where applicable.
