A unique role as a Property & Casualty II Claims Adjuster is available with the City of Fort Worth, Risk Management Division.

Risk Management, Property & Casualty Division is charged with coordinating claims and litigation and loss prevention/loss control through self-insurance and city-owned commercial insurance programs. As a member of a team, the Property & Casualty Adjuster II will determine the appropriate disposition of liability claims against the City of Fort Worth, including automobile and general liability claims, and pursue subrogation recovery.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration, human resources or related field
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible administrative and fiscal management experience in support of a department, division or major service area
  • Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Possession of and the ability to maintain a valid Texas Adjuster License.
  • Must pass Drug Screen, Physical

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, Business, Risk Management, Safety, or a related field; OR equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience enabling successful performance.
  • Three (3) years of liability or property claims adjusting experience, including:
      • At least 1 year handling bodily injury or auto liability claims, and/or
      • At least 1 year handling litigated or attorney-represented claims.
  • Possession of adjuster designations such as AIC, CPCU, or AINS
  • Must hold—or obtain within 90 days of hire—a Texas Multi-Line Adjuster’s License

The Property & Casualty Adjuster II job responsibilities include:

  • Claims Investigation & Evaluation
    • Investigate and assess facts, damages, and liability for assigned claims.
    • Apply Texas Tort Claims Act, tort law, contractual provisions, and relevant statutes to determine coverage and resolve claims.
    • Establish, adjust, and justify reserves based on estimated potential liability.
  • Claims Handling & Settlement
    • Negotiate claim settlements with claimants, vendors, attorneys, or other involved parties within delegated authority.
    • Prepare and authorize payments or denials in accordance with city and regulatory guidelines.
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain complete, accurate, and clear claim files, including investigation notes, correspondence, reserves history, and settlement rationale.
    • Produce detailed narrative reports outlining findings, legal basis, and recommendations for resolution.
  • Subrogation & Recovery
    • Identify subrogation opportunities and initiate recovery actions as appropriate.
  • Collaboration & Referral
    • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and other stakeholders.
    • Refer complex or suspicious claims to Special Investigations or Complex Claims units when applicable.
  • Additional Duties
    • Support training and mentoring of less experienced adjusters.
    • Assist with catastrophe (CAT) response assignments as needed.

Working Conditions and Physical Demand

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.  Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position:  Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
