About Our Team

The role sits within The Lancet Operations (OPEX) team, which supports the delivery of high‑quality editorial and production outputs across The Lancet portfolio. The team includes experienced production, editorial, and quality specialists who work closely together to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established standards. Quality and attention to detail are central to the team’s work, with clear processes in place to support reliable and timely delivery

About the Role

The Proofreader / Quality Controller role is a part‑time position (2 days per week) created to support team capacity following a reduction in hours elsewhere in the team. The role is responsible for proofreading and quality‑checking content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with house style and established standards. Working alongside other proofreaders and production colleagues, the role contributes to maintaining the high quality expected across The Lancet’s published outputs.

Responsibilities

  • Proofread content to identify and correct errors in spelling, grammar, formatting, and consistency.

  • Carry out quality control checks to ensure content meets established standards and house style.

  • Work within defined editorial and production processes to support accurate and timely outputs.

  • Collaborate with other proofreaders, production, and editorial colleagues as required.

  • Contribute to maintaining clear and accurate records in line with team processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in proofreading, quality control, or a similarly detail‑focused editorial or production role.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong written English skills.

  • Ability to work independently and methodically within established processes.

  • BA or MA degree (science background not required).

  • Reliability and professionalism to deliver consistent, high‑quality work in a part‑time role.
