Job Description

The Trades Supervisor will oversee and coordinate the activities of one of our trades team and contractors, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a solid understanding of various trades with the ability to deliver in challenging locations .
About the role
We currently have a full-time position for an experienced Trades Supervisor in the Melbourne area - (Mainly Western Suburbs). As a member of the team, you will be reporting to the Account Manager / Project Manager, where your key responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Leadership & Supervision:
- Directly supervise a team of tradespeople, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters and other skilled workers.
- Conduct regular team (toolbox) meetings and provide clear, concise instructions and feedback along company guidelines.
- Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
Project Management:
- Plan, schedule, and assign tasks to tradespeople based on project requirements and timelines.
- Quote on possible upcoming works using combinations of internal and external resources which can be either fixed price or do and charge models.
- Monitor progress and ensure all work complies with industry standards and company policies.
- Coordinate with other C&W departments and external contractors to ensure seamless project execution.
Quality Control:
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and project specifications.
- Identify and resolve any issues or discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Implement quality assurance practices and promote a culture of excellence.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure all team members adhere to OSHA and company safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety training and maintain up-to-date safety records.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant building codes, regulations, and permits.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate records of work orders, materials, and labour costs.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on project status, team performance, and resource needs.
- Assist in budget preparation and manage expenditures within approved limits.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position you will bring previous experience in a similar environment.
Minimum requirements include:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a skilled trade, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Current Driver’s license
- Elevated Work Platform – Scissor / Boom (Up to 11M and / or High Risk above 11M )
- Working at Heights
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and technical requirements.
